There's a group that kind of reenacted parts of the 1983 Frankfurt Motor Show. They show cars that debuted in '83. Cars that are now eligible for historic plates in Germany, and are therefore accepted as classic cars.

That M635 Csi sure is a future classic, but what about another car that had it's debut that year, the MK II Golf? (Also, you can see a hint of Sierra/Merkur in the background.)

Kinja'd!!!

Or the homologation special Audi Sport Quattro that was sold for a whopping 195000 DMark. This was serious money back then!

Anyway, here's the link to the rest of the pics: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

It's all in German but the cars pretty much speak for themselves.

What is the porsche behind the Audi? That thing looks mean.

Don't think Bertone is too proud of the Fiat Ritmo Cabriolet..

I do like the Renault Fuego in the background though.

Also the 1983 Frankfurt was the debut for the Sierra XR4, a sporty version with a 2.8 V6 and 150hp. These are rare in good condition these days..

Kinja'd!!!

But the car I'd really like, is the Opel Monza GT/E!

Wow. One of the rare cases where the production car actually looks better than the prototype!

Kinja'd!!!

Also, you are making me feel old. 1983 is the year I was born :(

The mk2 Golf isn't a classic... yet. Not the mundane versions anyway. There are way too many still on the road. A stock GTI might be one though.

Seeing these I really do prefer the cars of 1983 over those of 2013. To be honest I've lost interest in German cars of the last 10 years or so. Contrary to 1983 though, there are lots I like, of all brands. 1983 was a great year anyway, as it was the year I was born :)

There there looks to me like the 959 concept car.

My (sometimes suspect) powers of deduction say 959 prototype/concept.

I turned 5 in '83. Guess how I feel?

All of these Italian styling houses have their guilty secrets. I don't think Italdesign is too proud of the Morris Ital, a car named in their honour.

I love this. Thanks.

Might motivate me to post my now-old pictures from SEMA several years ago.

Between the ground clearance and the height of that Mercedes-Benz ambulance, it almost looks like it was built off of a SUV.
