Is it true? It's a small enough gap that if you put the two cars head-to-head in the exact same conditions, they would probably be pretty damn close. Also, I know McLaren believes the P1 has more in it than the 7:04 we heard about, but in any case, as of right now, the 918 is actually faster than the P1 around the 'Ring, and I am truly astonished.

As far as I was aware that time is only rumored, no official time has been released. So we can't say for sure.

I'm not sure how the 7:04 time for the P1 got leaked. McLaren have mentioned that they were aiming for a time below 7:00. Now thought, I'm sure they want something sub 6:50.

And then we'll have to wait for the La Ferrari to go round!

Yeah, I hope this launches an all out war between the three. I wasn't even thinking the 918 was going to be in the same league as the other two, but this time says differently. That's freakin' fast.

I'm not surprised.

It's a little lower in the power to weight ratio, but Porsche are masters of chassis dynamics, and the extra grip from the front mounted electric motors will help.

Then again, we haven't seen official times from the other two cars yet.

If my memory is correct Mclaren was estimating a time of 6:33 and individual section timing was pitting it at well under 7 mins. Ferrari on the other hand probably won't even bother with the ring, they never have it was always up to an owner or test magazine to put there cars round the ring.
