I'm heading to NYC for 1 night at the beginning of October. It's for work so I need to be near 6th and W 47th. Any suggestions of where to stay. I stayed at Bryant Park Hotel a few trips ago. It was nice, but I was upgraded to a suite so I haven't seen their standard rooms.
Also any suggestions for what to do in my free time? Good breakfast or lunch place? I may have some time around 1-5 on Wednesday oct 2.

Slightly irrelevant, especially for food, but maybe you could drop by Classic Car Club . It is out of your way though.

There are quite a few good hotels on Lexington ave or in the Times Sq. area - I particularly like the W hotel near Grand Central. I second ScoobSTI's reco for the Classic Car Club - the place is amazing and there is good food and shopping in the nearby SoHo area (plus easy ACE train access that takes you back to Times Sq.)

Take a cab downtown to Katz's Deli at the corner of Houston & Ludlow Streets. Real NY deli with pastrami to die for.

Hilton Garden Inn on 8th Avenue at 49th St has decent sized rooms and very helpful staff...we use it every year for lodging at a trade show.

I just stayed at the Renaissance 57 by Marriot on 57th and Lexington. The rooms are on the small side, but not bad for Midtown. After taxes/fees about $300 night.
