What is the worst car you have ever driven and/or ridden in. When I say worst, I mean to drive not to live with. The worst car I have driven was the 2005 chevy Malibu MAXX LT v6 loaner car from the dealership. It needed more power, it swayed like a boat, and the seats sucked. The worst I have ridden in was a PT cruiser. There were squeaks everywhere!

2001 Dodge Durango. The exterior was massive, but even with the seat all the way down & back my elbows were in my sides and my head was in the roof. The awkward driving position and poor visibility just compounded the awkward steering and scary-floppy handling, while the engine managed to hit the sweet spot of power where it was both fucking terrifying and way too slow.

An old school Indian 3 wheeler. It was loud, it was slow, it smelt like gasoline, it crashed on every bump making the ride intolerable, the brakes are made out of curry, the crumple zone is the wheel and the driver, and it is hideous. . . I loved it!

I'm pretty sure the worst car I've ever driven was a mid 90's cavalier, terrible car with few redeeming qualities.

Worst car I've ever ridden in was probably my friend's Hawkeye Subaru STI, not because of the car itself, but because of the way it made him drive (scared the shit out of me).

I had to take a (heavily) used preupdate 2.0L 4 speed auto Avenger on a training trip from Williamsport, PA to Philly when I worked at the Chrysler dealer. It was falling apart, slow, noisey, uncomfortable, and didn't have cruise. A brake drum locked up randomly for a few miles. It nearly killed me trying to pass a slow moving farm truck on a 2 lane counrty road with its lack of power. It got miserable gas milage and required toomany stops to fill its small tank. It even killed its fuel pump, although that waited til I was back to the dealer luckily. Just awful. The updated Avenger is an entirely different car, even if it looks the same. It went from bottom of ANY pack to at least an acceptable car, and somewhat fun in V6 R/T trim.

I'm a small and short kiwi, and big cars are no go for me. Unfortunately, I had to ride in a Ford Crown Victoria cab once when I was in New York City. That car is so huge I almost became lost inside. * shudders*

A three Gen Prius. It didn't even feel like it moved, and it was just pretty uncomforting to ride in, even worse than a Hong Kong minibus, which at least has the most insane drivers I know.

Had an Aztech as a company vehicle for a while.. Lots of revisionist history lately about how it wasn't that bad, it was ahead of its time, blah blah blah.. IT SUCKED. Worst body roll I have ever experienced. No abs or traction control (yes I know its an option but ours didn't have it and it was basically unsafe without), front wheel drive over weight for its platform. Felt like they took a grandma's car from the dealership and let Homer Simpson design it and he just kept adding plastic until it was about to tip over. Zero rearward visibility. Entire interior fell apart. Was so bad our company pulled them from the fleet way early (and were talking hundreds of them).

Surprisingly fun to drive on an open road, though. A sense of power and luxury. I like RWD compacts as much as the next guy, but I have a soft spot for barges.

One of these in blue was parked in a friend's town for a long time - I really wanted it. In fact, my first-ever oppo post was joking about it.

They are probably the same car. My mom used to ride in these when she was a kid, back in the 70s. When did the Germans make this?

The worst cars I ever drove (as I haven't ridden in many cars that I haven't also driven) were the Aveos for my driving school's behind-the-wheel sessions. Seats that left my ass sore, 4-cylinder engines that were more like 4-hamster engines, cheap interiors, etc.

The car I developed an actual detestation for while driving was a '97 Corolla. However, since it took two trips in excess of 3 hours to get that way, I can't say in fairness it was really the worst. I didn't like a PT I drove, but didn't have enough exposure to really develop that. Not a huge fan of the Chrysler Sebring either, but again, no outright hatred.

I had a '99 Saturn SC2 that I bought for $3000 when I was 18 with 122k miles. It cost me $2200 to insure at the time, and that was with no tickets or accidents on my record. The transmission failed within a month and that cost me $1500 to replace. I couldnt Lemon Law it because it had too many miles. Severely underpowered too, so much that a guy in a base Civic got pissed at me for not accelerating away from a toll booth quick enough. The 1.9 liter engine only made 120hp and took 9.6 seconds to get that 2400 pound car to sixty. It also had plastic side panels that looked like plastic side panels and aluminum wheels that had gone to shit. But, It got 30 mpg, had a manual transmission, and had the quirky third RAD side door, so it was kinda cool. Plus it had a remote trunk release and intermittent wipers that my '08 civic didn't come with. I'd love to get one again someday and hot rod it, no idea why...

years ago I once had the mistake of taking my friends '85 Ford Telstar to the beach one summer. 2.0L of unbridled "94hp" thrown to the bald front tyres. A brake pedal that had the same feel of accidentally stepping on a soggy spongecake.. and non existent air-conditioning on a baking hot 42 degree Saturday.

30 minutes into our journey my prayers were answered. The head gasket "shit the bed" and we forced to return home in a much more comfortable tow truck, we salvaged the day by going taking my 1983 Toyota Corona instead. The power difference was minimal, but Toyota knew something about brake feel and compliant steering.

There's another story about the drive back but I'll save that for another day.

~'49 to '61 for the most commonly known models, but they made some three-wheelers prewar. They were a part of the larger Hansa/Borgward group, and folded at that time. Borgward went into bankruptcy, but it later came out they shouldn't have had to.

This is a Goliath Pionier, dating from (according to the source) ca. 1930

Not sure of the age on this one. It looks like a match for your picture one, though. Maybe there was a license-build program.

This is a later Dreirad, produced not long before folding.

Most terrifying to ride in was a Prius. First we couldn't figure out how to use the extremely confusing on board computer/infotainment system. And then we couldn't tell if it was on or not when leaving my friends house, nor could we tell if it was off when we got to our location. And the quietness was a bit unnerving to me. Worst car I ever drove? Hmmm... Fortunately I've been lucky enough to never drive something completely shit. I'd have to say a Chevy Aveo. Actually, now that I think about it it was shit. Drove like shit, the interior was made of crumbling plastic bits, seats were terrible, the steering was very unresponsive, and the ride was horrible uncomfortable. Plus is was a weird orange/iron color. Yuk.

I had one of these as a rental last year. It was quite enlightening to me as to why GM went bankrupt. Everything about the car just screamed complacency. Chevy knew that there were a certain amount of people out there that would buy whatever mid-sized sedan they produced because of brand loyalty/nationalism, and therefore put zero effort into designing this thing.

A mid 90's Jeep Cherokee. It pains me to say this (I live in the Jeeps hometown), but the Cherokee is horrible to ride in. I'm 6'4" and, back then, about 180lbs or so. I couldn't fit in the front passenger seat, as my knees hit the dash and the seat didn't go back far enough. The rear seat was hopeless. It was loud, creaky and felt put together with bubble gum, bailing wire & a prayer.

Rentals, other peoples cars nothing is as bad as this. A 1991 Dodge Spirit. I've owned something like 10(cheap and old) cars in 13 years of driving, and have been able to find some good aspect about all of them. Except the Dodge. Had all the hallmarks of a good used car. Owned by old lady since new, documented maintenance, relatively low mileage(65k), said old lady used to be a nun and had car blessed by priest. Steering was shit, brakes were shit, accelerated like shit trying to go uphill under its own power, no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Then after a few months the head gasket went and it built up air in the system and would get stuck at the thermostat, creating an overheating issue. Removing the thermostat kept it from overheating enough to drive to the junkyard.

I can vouch. This was my drivers Ed car and it was complete garbage. No steering feel, huge, awful enterior, and less roomy on the inside than it should be. I was begging for driving a Ford Fusion that they had and I was not pleased when I saw the Bowtie on the hood.

It isn't nearly as bad some of the other mentioned here, but a 2003 Corolla I had to use for my driving test is definitely the worst car I've driven so far. Worst driving position ever, pedals too close, steering way too far. Impossible to use throttle or brake smoothly and just felt like it was going to fall apart.

2012 Yaris. Most gutless car I've ever driven. And I drive my moms car which has 140 MAD TYTE JDM HORZEPOWERZ, YO. The damn thing couldn't even chirp wet tires, power braked to hell with AC an TC off, not to mention the body roll. Swayed and caught the wind like it was designed for it. 4 speed transmixer that just made the noise horrible. I can't believe anyone actually bought one.

I had a 91 Cavalier. The biggest problem was build quality. It got good MPGs, the seat was amazingly comfortable, and the drivetrain was pretty solid. Sadly I could never justify buying another one because I know it will fall apart much faster than most comparable vehicles.

Worst car I ever drove: 2008 Corolla, driver's ed car. Just ever single thing about it was horrible. Luckily the seats were somewhat comfortable.

Worst car I ever rode in: 4th Gen. Dodge Caravan. Literally the most uncomfortable seats I have ever been in. It was like sitting on a pile of bricks.
