Basically, I'm planning on getting a data plan (because I don't actually have data), and my parents want to save money and get 2.5GBs. According to the data calculator thing on their site, I use 2GB (conservatively). I also heard that if you go over your monthly limit, they don't charge you, but rather, slow your connection down, but them being a giant corporation, I know theres fine print somewhere.

Anyone here use T-Mobile, and gone over their limit for the data plan? Did they make you pay extra charges? Also, if you did go over your monthly limit, how slow did it get?

T-Mobile really is unlimited. Yes they can slow down your data if you go over 2GB but from what I've heard they only do that if the network is under heavy load, if it's light load they won't slow you down. Sprint also has cheap unlimited data, and they don't throttle at all.

My current plan is Virgin Mobile in october when my contract with At&T is up, they throttle you to 3G speeds after 2GB. No clue on T-mobile

I was looking into T-Mobile's month-to-month plans and if I remember correctly, you get 1.5Gb of 4G and after that it's unlimited 3G.

I used T-Mobile for a bit, but I don't know how helpful that is to you, as I never came close to my data limit. With my Android smartphone I generally use around 25MB / month. Really the only way I could see going over is if you don't have WiFi available at home or at work.

I have T-Mobile but I have unlimited data. I had to get it to get a sale price on my phone, which turned out to be worth it. I get faster data on their network than my wifi at home or at school so I use it by default and I end up using around 5GB per month.

Pro-tips:

Buying more than 2.5Gb is stupid, especially if you have Wi-Fi at home. That's a massive amount of data.

Where are you located? Currently, Chicagoland has SHIT coverage. I'd check with what any friends say who have it.

DO NOT buy the google nexus phone, as nice as it is to have stock android. It doesn't support T-mo's Wi-Fi calling.

I recommend getting an LTE capable phone, as their new network is LTE. Phones that only support wi-max won't be nearly as fast on the internets of things .

I won't be using wifi- calling, but I will be probably tethering the connection to my phone because I do take the train every morning. I also need to look stuff up in a hospital during my clinical rotation, and the wi-fi in the hospital sucks like a Dyson vacuum.

I'm on Tmobile's $30 - unlimited data, unlimited test, 100 minutes plan, and have never used more than 2GBs, even the month we had a black out and I used it as my main internet connection for 2 days. Just know that what tends to eat up data is music streaming and watching lots of videos, neither of which I do routinely.
