I don't know if his lines in this movie are intentional or whether they accidentally wrote him in a way that makes the scenario in FF6 lend emotional balance to him.
I don't care. He is awesome.

It helps when the character is the brainchild of the director. Unlike the Torettos (based on real life street racers from interviews) or Brian O'Conner, Han was Justin Lin's own personal character that he brought to the franchise. Han's entire point was to be the fictional, unreal type of person that existing characters never were. He's street racing Yoda.
