The $100,000 One-Car Challenge.
I've just won the lottery (let's imagine) and struck it big. You're my friend, but I'm also kind of a dick. So I came to you and said, "Hey, friend, here's one hundred thousand dollars for you to go and blow on a car, but there are some conditions..."

I want to buy a V8 Supercar, can you please increase the amount for me?

Too easy. Where do I sign?
These things don't cost that much I suppose, but I'd need the extra cash to bring one to Brazil.

A car.

Well I just did this for less than 100K, I got a 1974 911 with no engine, black interior fairly cheap and began to turn it into a 934 clone. Rebuilt engine was around 15K. If I was under budget there is no problem spending money on a Porsche haha, always a light weight part or modification that can be done. I got a more modern GT3 front end from Elephant Racing to help the handling, little hidden bits like this, but its all easily done for less than 100K.

Clarification, Counselor. Say I wanted to go racin', could my budget be for car and consumables for a full season? Seems to fit the "every dollar must go to the car" with mods being permitted.

A Lotus Evora s. At 80k it pretty much reaches the limit. I has a back seat and uses toyota parts so cheap(er) repair bills.

I think I'll turn my W140 S600 into W140 Brabus.
You know, put a 7.3L V12 Brabus engine straight trough from the Zonda inside my merc. Because racecar.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 19:47 |

I'd buy an Alfa Giulia Ti Super that was identical to this

Buy an Acura NSX, pre-facelift. Titanium con-rods, have the engine balanced and blueprinted, HKS exhaust, replace standard wing with NSX-R wing, Fit some Volk TE37's onto it, Bilstein shocks, AP Racing brakes and have a turbo kit installed. Nothing too wild but bring up the power up to approximately 425-450hp.
This should be doable for less than $100,000, but I figure not by much.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:11 |

I choose this and the remaining money will be for the fluids change.

My current DD is a Volvo 850. Good enough. That means racecar.
997 GT3 RS 4.0, manual. Because racecar, and because my DD's ride shouldn't be all that harsher than the P-car's. Or a 993 turbo/gt2...

Depending on your base car, I can see this being done just about exactly on budget.
I approve, not that you need it. But here; have one hundred thousand imaginary dollars.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:28 |

2013 M5 or if you want to stretch it a little bit 2014 S8
![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:29 |

So, you're having the fluids changed right away? Remember, you don't get to walk away with any cash... even if it's to spend down the road. The equation is: One Car for One Hundred Grand.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:31 |
|
Just remember, anything not spent directly on or in the car the day you buy it is gone with the wind. Mind if I ask where you live, in a general geographic sense?
![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:33 |
|
I've seen some of the earlier NSX's go for $20-$30K so that's the base car I'd be shooting for.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:33 |
|
No problem with this one. Done yourself or by a shop, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind you could nail this car exactly on budget and I mean within a few dollars.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:35 |
|
Not that I disapprove, but I think the math might be a little wonky? Mind you, I dunno the import rules and associated cost for the Land Of Shaven Vaginas, so you could be spot on.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:37 |

Wow. I have literally never seen one in my life. My mind, just blown. I didn't even know.
This car. This one car, makes me rethink my stance on convertibles.
I have no idea of the price associated, so I'll take your word for it.

New York, and the Ti super was a rare homologation special, so 100k seemed like a reasonable price to me

![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:39 |

But I can decrease it, for you .
Would you like me to do that, for you ?
![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:41 |

No sir. I'm not sponsoring your race team. You and I both know that the moment I give you the hundred grand, I'm really signing up for a couple million.
No. No. Uh Uh.
I'll give you the equivalent value of stock in the street circuit I'm gonna build with the bulk of my winnings, tho.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:42 |
|
That's still twenny grand left over. It's an all or nothing situation, ideally. I'd be pretty disappointed in any friend of mine who couldn't hit the mark. Are you sure you want to be friends with my lotto-rich ass in this imaginary world?
![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:43 |
|
Might as well, if I can't buy the V8 Supercar, it don't matter
![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:44 |
|
By my calculations, I'd have about 200 thousand reais out of that offer, so I could bring a car that cost as much as a quarter of that amount, in dollars, so about 50k.
Any Nova costing up to 50 grand would be fair game, and if I really had to, I could bring one from Argentina instead, which top out at 15 thousand dollars for the car, plus taxes and duties, since there would be no shipping costs involved.
I could even end up with some leftover cash for tires and gas
![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:44 |
|
You're, conservatively, over the mark even if you consider that I'm Canadian and giving you a hundred grand US.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:46 |

![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:52 |

It all has to be spent. So as long as you're willing to spend the difference on the car, that's all good. I mean, if you were a hardcore purist, I could imagine you not wanting to touch the powertrain but if you're a guy who'd want a free car if only on budget, then there'd be room to spend the rest in the car.
Approved :)

I'd go buy a Tesla S.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 20:57 |

Given the price range, and that the options list top out at somewhere just over $100K, I'll approve your electric wonder-mobile, even though I'll curse it every day, for one hundred thousand dollars.

That, I don't know about. What I do know is that you can easily spend the extra in parts and labor, so count it as an imaginary deal done.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 21:06 |
|
Tell you what; if you can talk 'em down to the hundo-grando, we've got a deal. Something tells me that, coming at the with cash, you'd get them down most of the way, and whatever sexual favors you're willing to hand out (no pun intended) too.
So, that's a yes with the caveat that you've gotta get them down (on your hands and kness) to the hundred grand. Deal?

What's the quickest way to make a million bucks in racing? Start with two million.
Okay, if you're going to make me drop it on just the car. I will go with a GT40 rep from Race Car Replicas. Deluxe kit is about $40k without the driveline; labor, driveline and bodywork done to very nice standard for $100,000.
Thank you kindly, good sir.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 21:25 |

I'm almost embarrassed by the trivial ease of this, but you're my buddy right? Base 911, with enough options from Porsche's infamous online configurator to bring her up to $99K or so. In fact I did that thing and I'm up to $93,335 with a modest list of options I kind-of want, excluding stuff I don't. If it would make you feel any better I could go over to the "meaningless interior trim rubbish" tab and squander the remaining $6,665 with a couple of clicks, but to tell you the truth putting carbon-fiber dash/console trim pieces on one of these seem pointless to me.

Now that I have seen a bunch of yours, here's mine if one of you were the suddenly rich friend who said, "Go do it!"
It starts with the 2006 S197 Mustang I presently own.
It then involves giving it the front clip from a post facelift S197 and the rear decklid and light treatment from the same. This, parts and labor, could be sourced pretty easily.
Then comes the tricky part; finding a fabricator to turn my pony into a true Fastback. Not cheap, I wouldn't imagine, but it'd be part and parcel with the rest given the right shop/garage.
It loses the stock motor, transmission and rear end and gets instead a supercharged 5.0 Coyote mated to a TR6060 tranny and fully independent rear suspension. Then, we build the motor.
In the back, rolled fenders if need be, to accommodate at least 305's or bigger. Big wheels? Nope. I'd keep the stock, Shelby Racing inspired wheels and just have 'em spread to fit the rubber which, no... it wouldn't be some low profile tire but a pair of MT's high-sidewall, old-school inspired meats.
I'd put it on air and give it a rake.
Then, outside, integrated louvers on the quarter and rear glass, a Bullitt green paintjob and not a badge in sight. Meanwhile, inside, we'd be looking at a fully customized interior evocative of the classic Muscle Mustang.
It'd roar on custom exhaust, ground cams that sounded ready to eat children and small dogs, and basically be the most expensive and the most pointless non-Roush/Saleen/Shelby/Etc Mustang I could manage in budget.
I think, with the right shop and considering I own the car now, it could all be done for a hundred grand and that, given great craftsmanship, I'd love it til my dying day.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 22:01 |

And while we're at it, let's be angry that we didn't get Hulk powers out of the deal, too.
And that's something I've always wondered about; how do the big Superhero guys drive cars, and what do they drive?
Like, Juggernaut from Marvel Comics for example. The guy is a giant, even when he's just plain ol' Cain Marko. What the fuck kind of car could he even drive? Fuck superhero powers if I can't fit in a 2+2 sports coupe.

Not a GT3 RS 4.0, unfortunately. Thought depreciation would've killed it. But GT3 for 99k... Clicky! and 993 . The 993 is long gone, but I'm pretty sure with some digging another one could be found.

Until I can find a Ferrari F40 for under $100k, my answer is an Aston Martin V12 Vanquish. My second favorite car, and surprisingly attainable! And if I have money left over I'll buy a manual swap for the low low price of $20,000!
![]() 09/07/2013 at 23:06 |

Nibbles is being disagreeable. Car is beautiful - love the modern Halibrand-esque wheels. Disagree with going MT on your redesign, however - too mainstream. Recommend Goodyear Billboards or big-letter Avons for max awesomeness.

Absolutely. And you're not the only one.
But at least you're still fewer then the Porshe-guys. I think I'd have to give away like four or five already!

There's plenty below $100k, if cars.com is to be trusted ( http://tinyurl.com/q9vlbmw ) That said, I would probably spend $120k on one, but I couldn't pass up the free deal!

Plus tax, title, license fees etc. Please?
![]() 09/08/2013 at 00:05 |

Nope.
Taxes and fees? Check.
License fees? Nope.
But I'm pretty sure you could get a bitchin' graphic for the leftover change. Just think, you could be the only person with an F-Type Jag with an actual jaguar airbrushed on the hood.
All joking aside; I think this is a great OTL & Stock choice. Done.
![]() 09/08/2013 at 00:29 |

Maybe modify it until it's expensive enough, and import to Canada, making it even more expensive, then I spend the rest on a fancy date or what not.
Details? Uh, I dunno, maybe upgrade the suspension so it handles as well as its modern contemporaries, give it a V6 from a G35, give it a GT-R bodykit, probably a nicer interior, some restomodding, really.
![]() 09/08/2013 at 00:29 |
|
Used C6 Z06. Probably get one for $50k, then do heads, cams, intake, exhaust, cage, recaros, new suspension, etc etc etc.
Basically I want 600hp, and it to handle EVEN BETTER. And still have aircon.
Yeah, I can do a lot for $100k.
![]() 09/08/2013 at 00:32 |
|
If you bought one in Japan, had it fully rebuilt, then imported it to Canada paying all of the associated fees and modified the heck out of it, I still don't think you'd be able to spend the full hundred k. Prove me wrong?
![]() 09/08/2013 at 00:32 |

Easily done within budget.
Done.
![]() 09/08/2013 at 00:34 |

Oh I know. The other option would be to wait until the Z/28 is available, then see what all I can do within the budget for that. Personally I'd rather have the Z/28 simply because then I could buy it with 0 miles and everything that is done to it or happens to it was done by me.
![]() 09/08/2013 at 00:34 |

Easy question, Ford Falcon FPV GT-P. They run for around $70k AU which is about $65k. I would spend the rest on flying back and forth to pick it out, importation and motor upgrades.
![]() 09/08/2013 at 00:37 |
|
Wait, can you even import one to these shores?
![]() 09/08/2013 at 00:40 |

I'm notoriously bad with money, don't worry too much. I think a hybrid conversion may bump it up a bit. Doing some "research" on making things really expensive.
EDIT: New plan of attack.
http://www.canadianblackbook.com/used-car/vehic…
Let's say I went up to Ottawa and bought this because again, I'm bad with money.
I go down to the states, and have RWB work done to it. According to RWB's USA site, a 930 kit will burn through about $34,992 CAD. Combined with the $59,204 price for that Ottawa 930 the total is 92,854. That leaves 7146, which will be spent on taxes or something.
At this point the rest of the taxes will come out of my own pocket.
![]() 09/08/2013 at 00:41 |

Hmm
Some say to convert the pedestrian S600 to a Brabus SV12 7.3 cost £100k . But that's including stuffing useless bits and bobs such as TV, Gazillion watt speakers, reclining sit, etc.
And maybe I'll skip that and focus on the engine and handling only, so the cost shut be lower.
![]() 09/08/2013 at 00:45 |
|
But that's what Brabus does; insane horsepower and bits and bobs.
![]() 09/08/2013 at 00:47 |

ehhhh its iffy, I would import it under show and shine until the 25 years is up driving it the max miles, and then once its older than 25 years, I would drive the piss out of it.
![]() 09/08/2013 at 00:52 |

In Canada, you'd only have to wait 15.
Still, that's a hell of a long time and every day I'd tease you about not being able to drive it. :)

As much as I enjoy driving, I can't imagine it'd beat flying if you're superman, or webbing around like spiderman. But Batman's got some sweet vehiculars. Also, this:
![]() 09/08/2013 at 01:01 |

Hmm
But I don't want somebody to mess up my beautiful interior.
And the body should kept in stock, to make it one hell of a sleeper. Heck, I even want to rebadge it as a S320.
I think 85k should be enough for that. 95 tops.
The remaining cash is used for re-trim the car's leather.
And you ends up with a W140 that has more power than the Zonda F.
