That there are several new and improved, true to off-road heritage vehicles that are:

A. Not going away

B. Generally getting better

Kinja'd!!!

Yes it does. Yes it does.

I know its not for everyone, but Im stoked that the genuine off road adventure vehicle niche is still alive and kicking.

The only genuine off-road niche vehicle left in the US is the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Everything else is just pretending. It's still got solid axles, actual off-road tires, locking diffs, and the 4:1 t-case.

I disagree, though I do think the wrangler rubi is an amazing vehicle but as good as solid axles are...you don't NEED them to go places, regarding off road tires? you can spec them on the land rover or jeep and the trail 4runner has the same tires as the rubicon. Regarding the transfere case, no one NEEDS a 4:1, thats crazy, especially with todays modern high power engines. my 2.35:1 does just fine for me in my LC80.

I love the range rover because its very capable and it seems their owners actually take them off road (see them at lot in moab) the GC gets a diesel and can have 10.3 inches of clearance, and the trail 4runner gets dynamic rollbars that disconect for better articulation and still has a solid axle with locker option.

Still great choices.

I just wish they didn't ugly-up the 4Runner again.

Morans.

yeah, toyota needs to be reminded that goofy doesn't mean exciting and that you can't "refresh" exciting into a car by design.

Ah. My comment didn't take into account your "off-road heritage" statement. Yes these will work off road, but they are a far cry from their awesome off-roady beginnings.

it would be fun to compare, apples to apples, what the better off road vehicle is. stock glory days, stock modern days. Same tires, same reckless abandon with regards to body damage....it would be interesting.

Hmm. I'd like to imagine the Disco I and Land Cruiser would far better than the ZJ, but then again the ZJ once got a 5.9L V8...

I will admit I was disappointed when LR dropped the solid axles in the Disco BUT I will say that all the guys in my club with LR3/4's go through all the same shit I go through with my raised D2 on MT/R's.
