I asked for some help a while back on finding a lawyer in Kern County CA for a big speeding ticket and it was all resolved (very favorably) today. We pleaded a 103 down to 85 (in a 65) and I've got a big fine and traffic school - but no license suspension and no points.

How do you plead down the speed?

You can negotiate with the officer to "amend" the citation. You can also ask the judge to do that - but she isn't likely to agree unless the officer says ok. But then you plead no contest and the officer doesn't have to go through a trial so I guess they're usually willing to do it, if you weren't rude at the stop.

(In CA, 100+ is a separate offense with much bigger penalties so getting under that was critical.)

That's lucky lady to you. :)

But nope, no points if I complete traffic school.

Yeah, thanks! It still sucks but it sucks way less than it could have.
