Planespotting at KAUS is set to get a lot more interesting....
British Airways just announced that starting in March, it will fly nonstop between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and London Heathrow. This will be the airport’s first international destination other than Mexico.
British says it will fly the 787 Dreamliner five days a week initially, then increase to daily later in the year. ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! )

I feel like one 787 can carry more people than the entirety of KAUS can support...

I'll ask the obvious...why?
But we're trendy!

Must be something corporate heavy there. Raleigh-Durham (KRDU) has supported a daily nonstop to London (first LGW, now LHR) for over 20 years based primarily on IBM, GSK and another couple of companies committing to purchasing X number of business class and first class seats. Damned convenient when I was going over there 8-10 times a year...

Dell, Apple, Samsung, AMD, etc. I suppose there might be new business as a result of COTA as well. But I think this is huge for KAUS.

KAUS has been making noise about becoming more of an international airport for some time. There is talk of further expanding the terminal, and even adding another runway. They've got the room for it. But it seems like the only expansion that can really take place is int'l flights. I've been spotting down there numerous times, and unless you're there early in the morning or late afternoon, the airport is dead.

With two huge-ass airports in DFW and HOU, I wonder if more international airlines will follow BA.
