These statements came from the same guy in different occasions:

(This was a few weeks ago) - "BMW went so wrong from the 3-series in 2003 to the model later, it went from a small, simple and quick car to a bloated bathtub on wheels. Looks nice, but the big car should be the 5-series."

(A few minutes ago) - "Audi did it just right with current the A4. It was a smallish car like 7~8 years ago, but now it's bigger and more imposing".

Well to be completely fair, the A4 has always been a bit bigger, so the fact that they're the same size now is indicative of a big change in BMWs treatment of the 3 vs Audi's decisions to build up more slowly.

There's also the part where Audi doesn't try to pass off the A4 as the ultimate God car for enthusiasts...

Fair point, very fair. I had never really compared both data sheets, guess I got them wrong.

For all intents and purposes, they're complete competitors. You're not far off in your reaction to whatever the guys deal was.

What bothered me most is this double standard presented by the bias.

This guy is an douche that has many classes with me. I try to keep a distance in class, but he's one of those guys who simply can't keep his opinions to a near circle, he must let the whole room know.

Just now he complained with the professor that he didn't tell the class to convert the speed from km/h to m/s. Someone in the back did us all the favor of telling the truth: "If that's not obvious to you, you shouldn't be in Engineering"
