I have to agree with him. We have beautiful designs for now, but it'll start to get boring in a few years unless someone comes up with something truly new.

He could've made more, if he accepted one of the offers he had, after leaving BMW, I've heard that GM, Toyota, Honda, PSA and Hyundai, wanted him.

Actually he kick-started the design world back then, many car makers said that if BMW can approve such bold designs, they could go even further.

My counter would be the 5 series design went from iconic to widely mocked- probably not a good thing. The Top Gear mocking alone could fill pages.

I heard the same. His company is more focused on revolutionizing design altogether rather than just cars, he makes a point by sticking to this idea. But it wouldn't hurt to sell some ideas to these guys every once in a while.
