So on Saturday I decided to drive the rally car in a parade. I figured it would be the chance to have a little fun and give the team some exposure. What I foolishly forgot was that this meant driving a car with a high friction, heavy resistance racing clutch at walking speed. So in essence it was 90 minutes with my foot against the clutch pedal. Never again.

Gotta have a parade-spec clutch.

In other news, that is the best sponsor for a rally car ever.

Didn't you put it neutral as soon as you got it rolling? That's what I do when I get stuck in traffic whilst driving my dad's Hot Rod (which has an almost-as-heavy clutch mated to the master and slave cylinders of a Volvo Amazon - it's pretty hard on your foot).

Well, THERE'S your problem.
Edit: Dammit when are they gonna fix the annotations?

What were you aiming for?

When I could, yes. Half the route was uphill, so for that bit there was a lot of on-and-off clutch, on-and-off gas. And the clutch is like a light switch, either fully on or fully off, there's no easing out the clutch, you have to pretty much just build revs and drop it. So whenever I needed to accelerate I'd have to hold down the clutch, build the revs, release the clutch for like a second then get back on it.

Ah, isn't that a twin-plate clutch? I'm still learning about various clutch types but I think I've heard that they're "on-off" with nothing in between like you just described.

The Exedy sticker. Looks okay in the main photo.
