I really like the front end, but the rest is incredibly 'meh'.

It just looks so similar to everything else in it's market category from the front, with exception to the Passat, but it make up for that by looking the same from behind

I don't mind it. Chrome needs to make a comeback. In fact I think the classic American styling of the 50s and 60s needs to make a comeback. Not literally, but in spirit. Sort of what Chrysler is doing with the 300 and what Cadillac is doing, but more so. It seems like most American cars are trying to compete with their Asian and European counterparts and ending up not unique enough to set themselves apart.

It's definitely not bad.

And it's definitely a huge improvement over the previous Impala.

I wouldn't mind the chrome if it was there as a part of a cohesive design language, not a tacked on extra to make it look different even though it looks exactly the same.

I like what Cadillac and Chrysler are doing with chrome right now, although I was hesitant about the 300 at first.

All are wrong except Matt. The new Impala is a sharp looking car, especially to this mid 40's guy. Big, luxury and good looks. That'll do it for a family car. That, or it's the 6 or 8beers I've had tonight.

I disagree entirely. While the car itself is not outstanding in terms of drivetrain, I think this new Impala has quite a bit of style to make up for it. Way more so than any of the cars you just compared it to.

I think it's a huge step forward for Chevy in terms of styling. So glad to see them ditch that stupid split grille that they use on all their other non-performance cars.

Also, they need to lose the B-pillar. MB did it with the E coupe. If the American luxury brands could do it, especially Lincoln, that would be a great hat tip to classic heritage. Lincoln desperately needs a turn around and fast. I think the last good looking car they made was the first iteration of MKX. Even though it's a spruced up Edge, it is in the right spots. The new MKZ isn't bad, but the curvy front doesn't match well with the rest of the car.

Oh go Lincoln, I want them to succeed but they need to stop making more expensive versions of fords current line up.

I agree about the grille, and it is definitely one of their more stylish models, much more Volt like (which is a good thing). I just don't like that it looks so similar to so many other cars, it feels bland and uncreative. On top of that they finally finished the damned thing, realized they made it bland and covered it in chrome.

And seriously what the fuck is up with that rear section, instead of carrying through the very strong lines from the front and giving the car a very brutish and muscular side profile they gave it bubble ass.

I think the last non spruced up Ford they had was the LS? But I think it still had some Jaguar DNA. It's a shame they don't own any other brands they could borrow from.

Sometimes when I can't sleep at night I think of a world where Jaguar and Lincoln were both bought by Tata and Lincoln is now enjoying the same success Jaguar is.

I will not forgive them for what they did to the XJ. Not a bad car, hate the blacked out c pillar (dafuq?), should have been called something different though. Not in love with Jaguar but everything else is a general improvement to the line up.

I just like that they have reached profitability so they can start making cars like this

Imagine if Lincoln were allowed to go of the chain for a bit, oh how a man can dream.

They could. A MKix based off the Mustang would (could) be amazing... Hell, stretch the Mustang platform and give us back a proper V8 rwd town car.

The full-size American sedan sector has gone really downhill. One would expect ample room for everyone who gets in one. This and the Taurus fall way short.

I have sat in both recently, and I felt they were both too small on the inside. The backseat of the Impala is too short. I'm not the tallest guy in the world (5'11"), and I had to slouch down to fit underneath the sloping roofline. The Taurus just feels claustrophobic on the inside. I just didn't like that fact at all.

I really want them to move up and start competing with Cadillac. It's where they belong. A Town Car XTS rival, a return to American Luxury.

I agree, the cabin of the Taurus I sat on felt waaaaay smaller than my GTI. That's just criminal .

I just drove a 2014 2LTZ last week. Large sedans aren't my thing, but I actually liked it, and it is a huge improvement over the 2013 model.
