Tires....c'mon what were you thinking about?
I was thinking about getting either 255/85r16 or 285/75r16 for the cruiser. Any thoughts?
I like the idea of the skinnies since I will drive a lot in the snow and not a lot in the wet and mud (Utah). BUT the tire I want isn't available with in 255/85r16...so hmmm.
On the other side of the coin, I DO like to take the corners like it wasn't 2.5 tons and it does surprisingly well, in that case the wider tire...

They all burn the same. |-)
I've always liked fatties. Skinny's are always fun after having fatties for awhile. But, the novelty wears off fast.

Chubbies. If it's gonna be any fun for me, I need there to be some meat on those...uhh...rims.

not on an FJ80 they don't, it would take 2-3 times the power to even get a chirp.

I like 'em round and big.

That last pic...I can clearly see the smoke billowing from inside the truck...and that truck is green.
I see what you did there...

yes, that does sound like a tire.

It's generally better to be bigger where it counts.

That was just a thinly veiled drug reeference. ;-)
I had an early Suzuki Sidekick (I think it was powered by a Suzuki bike motor) that I used to switch winter skinnies out for summer fatties every year.

Fatties, but only if they have the power to use it.

power the cruiser has not. If my math is right I have no more than 180 hp for 4800lbs of truck when I leave my house. If I want to go up the canyon to the ski resort I have 155 by the time I get there. Granted it could be worse, the fj80 with the 3F motor had 155 hp at sea level for the same car.

Skinny for snow, everything else fat - dirt, rocks, sand, mud, street

For snow, skinny's, for traction on dry surfaces, wide. Sounds like you need 2 sets.

if I was going to but two sets it would be winter/rest of the year...and at ~$200 a tire...nope.
