TTAC said that with the exception of the Escalade, they were all going to be revealed at the Texas State Fair (which starts on September 27th), but this contradicts that with respect to the Tahoe/Silverado reveal. The GMC Yukon might still be revealed there, though.

I think they'd just use the 2014 Silverado's engines - given how much they were bragging about beating the MPG ratings of Ford's EcoBoost V6 with those of the 5.3L Ecotec3, I don't think they'd use the twin-turbo LF3 V6. Since the LF3 also puts out 400+ HP in the 2014 CTS and XTS, it'd also be competing with the upcoming 6.2L Ecotec3 that'll make 420 HP.

Chevy Silverado SS/Tahoe SS/Suburban SS:
RWD Sport trucks with the LS9/A motor
GMC Sierra/Yukon/Suburban Denali:
Raptor-like trucks, off-road shit, crazy diesel engine
Cadillac Escalade ESV:
either the Denalis with the LS9/A or simply a 4WD version of the SS's.

I doubt it, but it would make sense for their special service (police/fire/ems) vehicles. The average soccer mom/family person who buys these things (for whatever reason) would not want a diesel, especially given how many of them would immediately void the warranty by filling it up with gasoline

GM BRING BACK THE AVALANCHE!!!!!!!
LTIROCKS

08/30/2013 at 20:58 | 1 |
No, I don't think that.
They're going to use the same engine/transmission combinations that are being used in the all new pick-up trucks, though it's possible that the new 8 speed automatic could make its debut here.
They'll probably also carry over the offset steering wheel from the new trucks, which will be equally unwelcome in this application.
See, GM doesn't want to spend an extra $25 or so on a second UV joint in the steering shaft assembly, so the customers have to deal with a steering wheel that's offset by 1.5 inches or so from the center-line of the driver's seat.
As the former owner of a then new '09 Corvette, shortcuts like that don't surprise me in the least.

Not necessarily. They might share some design features. But when the GMT900 trucks hit, they lost a good bit of similarities. Hell even when the GMT800 got refreshed they left the suburban/tahoe out of it.
I'd expect same interior (although maybe a bit nicer materials and some minor changes) and different front end styling. Probably same wheel wells and taillight design.

That may have been the logic of old GM management and marketing teams, but I think they've finally figured out that the market doesn't want an souped up Silverado. I think GM will shock people with whats coming next month!
And the turbo diesel probably wouldn't be available at launch, just the 5.3L Ecotec. But the diesel is coming sooner rather than later (At least I hope!!)

The barn doors are overrated. The utility is far outweighed by the loss in visibility through the rear window.
I wouldn't mind an Excursion-like lift gate glass with barn doors below, but my top choice would be a lift gate glass on top with a flip down tailgate (for sitting on, etc.) below.

I think the liftgate glass goes way too high for people not in the NBA. The barn doors just swing out to the side and are much better. Most full-size vans have barn doors in the back, not a liftgate, for this reason.
The visibility loss isn't THAT much.
However, on regular car-height wagons, I'd agree with you. But SUV's are too tall for a liftgate to work.

According to American Heritage, it's only a verb. If it's listed elsewhere as a noun, it can only be because the continued misuse of the word has resulted in its later inclusion, like "normalcy" alongside "normality" after Calvin Coolidge's popular (and popularly decried) misuse.
If you don't mind contributing to the degeneration of the English language, dear boy, continue in your current manner!

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, the new GMTs seem to be very well made. But I expect nothing more than a facelift to give them a softer appearance to attract the soccer moms. Funny, nobody complains that the Sequoia is just a rebadged Tundra, or that Lexuses are rebadged Toyotas, but when GM does it, or Lincoln, it completely discredits them as a choice to some people.

I really like the Tahoe SSV and PPV, but even those are crazy expensive and they don't even have any features. I am a Ford guy, but if I found a Tahoe or Suburban (or even a Yukon, but I almost never see those in this body style) in a price range I could get at, I'd snap that up right away.

Is this supposed to tease the new size difference between the Tahoe and the Suburban? The Suburban's side is much larger than the Tahoe's size, and currently, somewhat minor length differentiation makes it difficult to tell apart.

Well, the Suburban's name is longer than the Tahoe's name, and the Suburban is going to be a larger vehicle anyway. I think that's just the result of the banner's proportions/layout when they're trying to keep both logos the same height.

No, we're just regular members that have the ability to post on Oppositelock, Jalopnik 's off-topic forum. We talk about automotive news/rumors/info, ask for advice on this or that, share pics of cars we've spotted, etc. We basically shoot the breeze about anything - it might not involve cars, though cars are mostly what's discussed since Oppo's part of Jalopnik and all.
There's no money in it for us - if we post something that Jalopnik 's staff sees as worth featuring on the front page, then they share the post by linking to it from the front page. That's all there is to it.

The loss of visibility is notable given the size of the rear view mirror and the way it magnifies.

They split shared designs with the GMT800. I'm not saying you said it was a bad thing. I'm simply saying they won't be the same exact vehicle in terms of styling.
And nobody has ever bothered to mention the Sequoia is just a SUV Tundra (it's not a rebadge). And Lexus has unique vehicles. They haven't been rebadges for a number of years. Shared platforms? Only on the Avalon/ES and their SUVs. Shared engines (in some). But they are not rebadges.
Nobody has discredited GM for styling their SUVs like their trucks. GM has been doing it for years. The only thing that they get criticized for is when they have a premium SUV like the Escalade, and it's the same as the Suburban. Not much more luxury at all (considering the premium you pay).

No, I don't. There's no indication of that. And there's no reason for turbos when modern, large displacement engines with cylinder shut-off are readily available. GM just came out with an all new light duty pickup (i.e. Silverado) and there's not a single turbo engine in the offering.
The "on paper" difference between Ford's Ecoboost V6 and 5.0 V8 is a mere 1MPG, which is essentially zero in the real world. The Ecoboost is more expensive, and less reliable - especially once the warranty expires.
And Ford intentionally sandbags the 5.0 in that application (just 360 HP) becuase they're pushing the "greeness" of Ecoboost. The same basic engine makes 420 HP in the Mustang GT and made 444 in the Boss 32. Ford could EASILY get 390 HP out of "truck version" 5.0 while still retaining the required low and mid range torque.
