Aston DBC: Concept lacking the posterior it deserves?

Kinja'd!!!

Every time I see a car like this (courtesy of one vary talented designer - and I can't state this enough), I count myself lucky to be living in an age where automotive pornography, in its various forms, is so easily proliferated on the the internet.

The car you see here popped up on another blog I frequent yesterday; so I thought I'd share with the addition of a (possibly controversial) personal opinion:

Kinja'd!!!

I'm not at all opposed to the idea of Aston putting out a Mid-engine/RWD Halo model, in fact I love the idea - even if it is a departure from the historic Front Engine design.

This concept, from Samir Sadikhov - the man behind "a portfolio filled with work for lamborghini, such as the CGI renders for the press images of the aventador J and urus SUV" and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) is Gorgeous - take my money GIFs welcome below.

But (and this is where it gets controversial), I can't help think that, for all his talent, he hasn't quite got the back end right.

Kinja'd!!!

I chose the rear 3/4 picture to show this off, hear me out: it's not anywhere close to ugly, but the rear... doesn't quite evoke the response it should.

The frankly insane concavity of those wheels combines with the contrast of that long, sweeping, ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) roofline to showcase an amazing silhouette; yet the general proportions of the Diffuser/Exhausts & the squinty Lights don't add up for the concept - I won't even mention the paint.

Sure for the road car, they are sedate enough to be realistic, but if you look at the trend to distill concept design language and crazy futuristic features into something more sedate for real world customers (those boring and risk averse enough to afford such a car, should it ever come to fruition).

It scares me to think how bland this would end up with input from marketing and accountants disrupting design considerations (if they were to build anything using this as inspiration). All in all I don't think the car has as much presence from the rear: its too functional to sit alongside the mix of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and sexy, modern, aero curves which make up the rest of the car; which is a shame when you look at every other angle ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ). Its simply gorgeous, or it could be.

I don't intend to throw empty criticism against a designer with infinite more talent than myself, but instead thought that for my first Oppo post I'd want to make it a good one: mix some opinion, sow the seeds for some discourse and hopefully encourage you to contradict me.

Anyway, over to you Oppo: How'd you like "Dat ass" ?

That rear isn't even bad, I kind of like that it's relatively low and not too tacky. The exhausts look misplaced, though, I'd rather let them exit on each side of the plate or higher up altogether; huge fan of what Porsche did with the 918. Why not something like that? With such clean lines, this car could do with a completely uncluttered rear, too – maybe even fewer angles around the lower rear, where the visible carbon appears.

I love this car front to back, but I do agree something needs to change with the tail. The lights assembly is stunningly beautiful, what i don't like is the the lower half that is black contrasted to the red. What should be done is all the black should be filled in with the red pannels to make a nice smooth curve down the rear towards the ground. The LED cluster should be removed completely and the exhaust ports should be rounded out to adapt to the look. Now... I have no idea how aero dynamics work, but whatever they have going on down there could remain, just with smoother lines. The whole car looks like a ripple of water on a still pond, but whats going on in the back with the aero stuff just doesnt fit the overall theme.

I guess long story short. Continue the red pannels down over the black section to make a nice smooth round ass for this girl.

I love aston because of their elegant styling and clean lines, but the back of this car just seems to get lost when compared to the rest of the design - Samir Sadikhov has done amazing job & as a stand alone piece I don't think its bad work, just not expressive enough here: Neglected is too strong a term and I wouldnt go as far as to say it looks like an afterthought - the back just that it isn't special.

I want the jutting Diffuser from the V12 Zagato and agressive OTT Exhausts - One77 rear Lighting and somthing the lipspoiler from the DBS wouldn't go amiss on trhe concept either.

Hate to say it but the red doesn't work for me (British Racing Green ftw!) - but I agree with you in principle; there isn't a cohessive flow at the back regardless of which colour it is. I'd like to see the body colour accent the rear lines, maybe picking out the protrusions & raised areas of the diffusor.

Agreed on the LED's - 100% need to go.

I'll take a car with a beautiful face like this and an ok rear end over a goofy grinning face like the Ferrari F12 any day.

I LOVE Dat Ass! The front doesn't look right to me. It looks too much like the Ferrari P4/5 (which I, unlike most Jalops, think is ugly). But I truly love every angle of this car OTHER THAN straight on.
And whether you agree with me or not, you need to check out Samir's portfolio and tell him how great his work is (I'm certain there's at least in car in there that you'll drool all over).

Well the Ferrari concept by the same designer is amazing - so much prettier than the F12 or the laFerrari.

On mobile otherwise I'd link, but his portfolio is linked up there ^

Yes. Too much fish/vacuum going on in the front.

I think they should move the exhausts to the side. Other than that, Aston needs to make this car, looking exactly like this. They need some evolution in their designs. They're turning into Porsche, except prettier.

NOPE. Love it. I think its just fine and if i were an Arabian oil sheik i'd buy 12 of them as a living room decoration, one for every mansion/bunker i owed.
