Holy crap, the one guy I work with is such a whiny little bitch, I swear he was on his period today (no offense, ladies). We both started work for the company the same time about 2 years ago, him full time and I part time while I was going to school. We used to talk all the time when we worked together, but only because he was weird and no one else would talk to him (when I say talk, I mean I worked while he talked and then worked while he stopped talking to take a breath). I'll admit that today was a long day (I started 12 hours ago and I'm still at work), and it's kinda crappy work (manual labor inside all day, no windows) but seriously, man up. He was complaining about absolutely everything, from the equipment, the consultant who came in today, every other employee, even me (although subtly).
Although he's worked here more than I have, I got promoted to manager two months ago when the last one quit, so now he brings every single little complaint he has to my attention. Also, if he notices that something didn't get done, instead of doing it he comes and whines to me, and says "it's not my job to make sure that gets done". Definitely not company policy, bro. The only reason I don't call him out on his shit is that he's quitting in a month, and I want to keep him in as good a mood as possible for the rest of his time here for the sake of the other employees.
tl;dr - guy i work with (technically he works under me) whines to me about everything like a small child.

What's the extent of your disciplinary power? Can you fire people? Can you reprimand them?
If you can fire people, why softball this whiny asshole? That you know he's leaving soon is even more reason to go full palpatine on his ass. He's how I'd handle it...
"Listen. The following is a coutesy I'm giving to you because I like you. Otherwise, I would have fired you on the spot. You are not to complain to me about anything, for any reason. Do it again, and you will be sent home immediately. Understand?"
If he gets all pissy about it and shits on me/my management/my attempts to get it done, he's gone. 0% tolerance for folks not willing to get with the program. 0% time to waste on folks not willing to follow directions and do the job as directed.

No, unfortunately. I'm production manager, not personnel. Also, the only reason he's staying on for the next while and isn't gone yet is to train his replacement, and then cover the empty slot while I'm on vacation for 5 weeks.
And I'm pretty sure he gets whiny at the end of the day because he needs his marijuana for the day. No joke.

Also, I'm going to be gone from this company in the next 6 months anyways, going back to school, so it's not worthwhile for me.

Probably not as underage as you think; I'm the maintenance and operations manager, and I'm only 21.
