For ages now i've been thinking of replacing the Volvo with something with less dents and body colours. Happenstanced across a GS300 sport in mint nick.... and i'm severely tempted to buy it. I'm only 24! Why do I want a Lexus so much?
So here's my thinking.

Reliability
Has the period correct lowpro alloys with the wider rears
Parts interchangeability with the Supra / Soarer (2JZ & 6 speed & LSD slot in without too much drama)
I like how it looks
It's only £1495 ($1750 ish)

I'm not sure how going from a Volvo to a Lexus would amplify the old man image unless the Lexi are like Crown Vics in the US, piloted by retirees who are reaching up to the steering.. Wait, you are right. I can't think of a <50 Lexus owner.
Good stealth mode though. Add a caravan hitch, but never use.

Won't be hard to swap eventually and have a 6spd or 5spd supra sedan. Go for it!

The car has a lot going for it, i would be sorely tempted at that price too. However a 4speed auto is a big drawback - even the best engines get sucked down by those. So i would only do it if i had enough remaining to
a) do a complete servicing, including new rubber to make it purrrrfect
b) do a tranny swap. I don't know if that's possible, but even a more modern 5 or 6 speed auto would greatly enhance the dynamics, and make it sleeper-ish

I think the old man image is fading , Here in Ireland I have seen a load of guys trade up from Is200's and Altezza's to the GS/Aristo.
I think it would be a wise choice, very stealthy !

Browsing around it seems the Toyota V160 6-Speed gearbox fits in with some ancillary modifications (different speedo sensor/master cylinder/flywheel/clutch pedal/e-brake relocate/etc) and as an added bonus can handle way more abuse than the 4speed.
Unfortunately the V160 is fairly rare, and expensive. Hmmmm...
