I was on Norfolk not that long ago, they still deliver pretty much EVERYTHING to the island like that. Big/expensive things like fire trucks have been flown in by the RAAF in a Globemaster, but everything else comes in on the little boats. They are basically remakes of the old whaling boats used by the original occupants of the island. They get towed out to the cargo ships by a fishing boat (or any boat that happens to be around), stuff gets loaded onto them with a crane, and then they get towed back in.

When I was there, I saw a pair of Toyota Hiace vans being unloaded, they attached two of the old boats together with a big platform, and the two vans were lashed down on them, and towed in by a dude in a small fishing boat. A crane parked on the jetty lifted them up, just like in the picture shown. It was amazing.
