They are high. I used to own an R1. Killed my knees, back, wrists, everything

Is it just a color-scheme special?

Mostly, but not entirely. According to the article:

MotoGP Technology: Throttle response and mid-range engine output have been boosted through the use of lighter pistons, lighter tappets and more aggressive valve lift curves. Delivers greater drive and acceleration for faster lap times.
BREMBO Monoblock Radial Mount Calipers
Showa Big Piston Forks

I agree that this is an interesting version of a special bike, and that this will most likely end up a collectible item, but I can't get behind the colour scheme. Something about the matte gray sets me off. Maybe it's nicer in person?

I feel like this bike would be nice as a track-bike (it doesn't seem to even have a kickstand), but as someone that daily drives a motorcycle I would never go for something this crazy. Yes it's cool, but it's a bit of a niche bike. If I wanted something fast, it would also have to be practical like this.

The strangest thing about that Gixxer is that it looks street legal (indicators, reflectors, mirrors, etc.), but the way they display it on a rear stand makes it seem like it doesn't have a kickstand, something that seems very necessary for a bike you would ride on the streets.
