Hey, Oppo!
So... we all know that streetracing is a bad idea. We know that around the world, our governments are cracking down on speed, power and the things that most of us think of as "fun". But, we're all adults here... for the most part... and I think we are willing to accept that some restrictions are needed to keep us safe and happy.
To that end, there's hardly an Oppo who'll condone street racing, stunting or any of that other dangerous crapola. That's a good thing.
But, dear friends, I was wondering how we all feel about smokey burn-outs!
What're your thoughts on Smoking In Public?
PS. I'll weigh in by way of responding to comments and such. I'm more interested in what you think then what I think I know.

I think its pointless, you waste your tires to show you know how to do clutch dumps? Also in response to your pic, theres been a bunch of mustangs crashing around Detroit trying to be cool and do burnouts.

Only in empty places where the smoke won't drift over to someone else, such as a large parking lot (after hours) abandoned/unused highway.
I am far more offended by absurd diesel smoke or stacks that blow black than burning rubber, and the former is far more likely.

It's not the car. It's the owner.

As long as it can done respectfully (which it can), I'm all for it. Traffic, pedestrians, 2am noise, burning divots into the pavement - all are no-nos. Other than what should be common sense, some black stripes never hurt anyone.
As far as the "adult"qualifier goes, I'm sure I'm in the upper percentile on Oppo/Jalop. Elvis was still breathing when I was inside my dad's nuts.

I know. But as a Mustang Guy I end up defending the car over the owners all the time. LOL

You can't condemn one type of uncivilized driving and defend another. It all falls under "reckless driving"

The grabber blue hits too close. To home. I'm not doing any burn outs. I have almost that exact same car. Also, I completely agree with the waste of tires. I normally out about 60 miles per day on mine, so they already wear quick enough. I don't need to help them alon any.

Well I didn't mean to call out your car .... But when your that popular of a sports car, there are going to some asshats driving them.

No, I completely agree. I'm just saying it was a little scary seeing a car just like mine destroyed by asshattery.

While I would tend to agree, it really comes down to your definition of "civilized" driving.

Are you a competent enough driver to pull it off safely without the risks of injuries or property damage?
If you answered yes, and you're honest, then sure. It can look cool, but you aren't doing your tires or clutch any favors.
If you answered no, or you haven't practiced long enough to perfect your form, then at least find an empty parking lot to practice in until you can predicatively do burn outs. And when you're first learning, you don't need a torque monster sports car to learn. When I was in high school, I used to do burn outs in a 60 horsepower Ford Festiva. They weren't impressive, especially with the whole front-wheel drive part, but at least tires were cheap (~$20).
