Someone passed me enthusiastically in one recently. That noise, I need it. Also, I've always thought they looked good.

They are rarer than hens' teeth around here in good ol' Yurrup, but the setup you described is cool with me, and i would jump on it in a heartbeat given the means. I even looked at that gen of IS a few times now, because i didn't dislike them in the first place, and the design ages surprisingly well, if you ask me.

I've always loved the car, particularly the way they look - the first-gen IS is the best, IMO. I've heard that the sparkplugs are a bit hard to work on, but I don't have any experience with them and don't know if someone used to boxer motors would find them that challenging.
They have the 2JZ-GE and 215 HP, so while I think they could use a bit more power, I'd buy one if I had the opportunity.

The complaints I have heard about them:
(1) Underpowered
(2) Bad fuel economy
(3) Cramped rear seat
None of those things have kept me from wanting one though. Finding a clean one that hasn't been abused for reasonable money, though, seems to be quite difficult.

love it. Good luck finding one. I tried years ago to find that combo and it was hard then to find something that hadn't been riced. p.s. I know its not for everyone, but i LOVE the chrono IP

I have one myself and let me say, 1. A bit, but still really peppy. 2. Yes, pretty bad... and 3. Cramped yes, but if you put the seat up, they make up for it in the pure squishyness. They are amazingly comfortable, especially with the armrest down..

The manual on them sucks, although it is still a manual. Also, the automatic can take WAY more power. But autos don't have LSDs.

Buy one! And immediately see SRT for a CAI/chip combo or a Turbo.

That's not true, you can get an auto with an LSD. What's wrong with the manual transmission? I would be willing to get an auto but at that point I should just buy an 2nd gen IS350 and spend more money and get more power.

Well yeah you could put an LSD on an auto (that's what I'm going to do with mine), but I'm saying stock, they never came with them. The manual is really vague, can't handle much power, and is just, in general, a rushed edition they put onto the car. The throws are too "notchy" too...so yeah. And although the 2nd gen IS350 has more power, its much less of a driver's car. They are much worse than the 1st gen or the 3rd gen.

Their website doesn't' say it is and if someone saw this:
they would fail the car immediately.

M98 is the LSD that came on automatics with 3.9:1 gears, open diff is M96. I would settle for automatic since they're easier to find and much cheaper but it would have to low, low miles.

I just did the vin code check thing with mine, and yeah, no LSD like I thought. I got mine with 58k on it, but I did get ripped off on the price a bit. Still a great car though

Not sure what you meant by a "chip" because SRT doesn't sell anything like that (that I can find on their site), but the intake does come with an Air/fuel ECU you have to solder in. Would that be it?

No problem bud! Yeah the 300 runs pretty rich, so combined with the extra air, they recalculate and lean it out. You basically get the same mileage but like 20-30 more horsepower. Yeah, that's how rich it comes from the factory.

Trying to replace CRV.
Ideally, I would want to sell the WRX and CRV together and drop 20k-25k on a car with some debt but that's not a good idea. I could buy a hawkeye STI or an E46 M3 but again, not a good idea.

Very rare. almost got an auto when we happened upon quite a deal for a G35 sedan. I think the is300 is better looking though. never drove a manual one and all the onesi saw for sale had salvaged titles. Get one.
