The actual article is interesting. And the people most outwardly impacted by all of this might be online advertisers, who will undoubtedly lose revenue if these trends continue.
This was a little sobering, though:
More than 60% of Internet users also reported they do not feel they have control over their personal information online, and 48% said they didn't know how that information was being used.
Surprised those numbers aren't higher, actually.

But why? Surely you're not monitoring us on an individual machine level, or have I severely underestimated the extent to which our tax dollars are funding useless things?
Isn't it just easier to go right to the ISPs and telcoss and pull what you need than be concerned with if we're cookied or not? You're already in bed with all of them so why not save yourselves the trouble?
