And why does !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! like I should know who he is. I mean a quick google search tells me he's been on Oprah, but... I mean, by now, who hasn't?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

(FWIW, I don't watch broadcast TV, I don't have cable, I get my news from the internet and radio and I avoid tabloid publications, so I lead a sheltered life in terms of celebrity America)

Does someone have a 30 second explanation for why he's referenced? Other than "Gawker Media"...

As far as TV doctors go, he's pretty well known. I'm guessing they played the odds and assumed most people do watch broadcast TV. Although he's on CNN more than the network news broadcasts.

He is a cardiothoracic surgeon who got famous on TV and says lame things that people think they are important.

My parents watch it.

They say "Oh are you going to be a doctor like that"

I replied with "If that is what my career becomes, I'll overdose on morphine"

To be fair, though, he became a TV doctor because he's actually very, very good at doing the whole surgeon thing. One of the best there are, in fact.

Good yes, but there is an inherent distrust of people who jump to TV.

I trust my own cardiac surgeon more, seeing as how he heads the premier institute on the planet and saved my grandpas life. And he buys me donuts while I work.

How can I argue against free donuts? I can't.

This. He does many, many things in order to help people and he's very good at doing it too.

People don't necessarily need to know who he is but that doesn't invalidate what he does.

Understood. I just wasn't sure if there was some social movement that I had missed (it wouldn't be the first time)
