A new arrival at Cars and Coffee this weekend (or at least one I hadn't seen before). A bright orange Volkswagen Thing. God, I love these things. I mean, Things.

I like how it is parked next to the grey Rolls Royce so it can prominently display how unpretentious and funky it is.

I found this on a quick scrub of VW's site. Pretty interesting that the VW Chronicle uses an orange theThing as its example!
1969: OCTOBER TheVW181 (theThing), commissioned by the Bundeswehr (German army), goes into production. The VW 181 is the first cross-country vehicle for the general public that receives widespread attention. Over 80 percent of the entire production is put to civilian use.
In the next month, VW intro'd this orange baby:

I know, right? Thanks again. Even with all the Ferraris that showed up on Saturday, it was my favorite car at the show.
