I saw Jesus Diaz, to my mind the worst Gawker contributor there is, comment on a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! tonight. Having flashbacks of how awful his 'reporting' was, so awful it made me quit reading Gizmodo after many years of reading, I responded to his comment with my lamentations over his work.

I admit, I wasn't nice, but I was completely respectful, just very forthcoming about my distaste for his work. He deleted those comments, which didn't contain anything vulgar, untrue, or really anything other than my opinion of his contributions. Then, soon after I get !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on a previous post of mine "No, you're actually a dick. A fat losing dick in a suit." From a user with no other Kinja activity, ever, with the username " !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ."

I can't remember ever being personally attacked in a Jalopnik comment thread. Attacked for my opinions, sure, and that's what I come here for. It's an extremely fair, or perhaps well moderated community. Whichever it is, it's one of the only places I like contributing to online, because the level of discourse it typically 10 notches higher than anywhere else. Or it's $kaycog's hilarious COTD prizes, which are their own weird thing entirely.
Even if dickhammer really is some person that was that butt-hurt about my benign comments to Matt Hardigree (who I'm a huge fan of, by the way), the fact that Jesus is going and deleting my comments for no good reason seems odd to me. I've taken at least 15 Gawker media folks to task in the past for bad reporting, and most have responded admirably, or ignored my feed back, but they didn't go and delete my comments.
For the record, I'm big-boned...

I've had the same thing happen. Made a thoughtful and critical comment on a Max Read (real name, lol) post and he deleted it. I changed my username to maxreadisaprissybitch in protest. Now I'm banned from Gawker. Woe is me.

Their whole model is community feedback, it's what makes Jalopnik great at least, and when you don't let people provide that feedback, it just looks stupid as hell.

I appreciate the background, I don't honestly know much about what the guy does or much of his writing outside of Gizmodo. I do know he must be a great guy. He maintains a great position at a very interesting company and his talent for the work doesn't match. Normally means that person is nice to be around, I'm sure he is.
He should accept the hate though, if he's going to subject us to his thinking:)

You and I share the same feelings over not reading Gizmodo anymore. I have left a few comments in the past over there regarding his "journalism" just to have them be deleted.
I can't wait to find him over here in Jalopnik.

If it makes you feel better he’s nowhere to be found on the Gawker sites. Other than his Twitter account, which he’s still posting Gizmodo/Gawker/Jalopnik/Sploid articles to, it seems as though the internet, and Gawker, has forgotten him.

I haven’t been around here very long, but I really like it. Oppo, I mean. I’ve made a good friend already and we do cars and coffee together in the real. I’ve been upbraided by Flower Girl and moderated for posting inappropriate things — before I fully understood the how this space works — but folks on Oppo try real hard, generally, to be civil and considerate and it’s just a refreshing and uplifting place to be.
