Last week For Sweden declared today Maintenance Monday. This weekend I did the front brakes on Evo. The car has 132k on it and I'm pretty sure this is the 4th set I've put on. I abandoned the Brembo pads and rotors long ago. Brembo was kind enough to make Mitsubishi the sole distributor in the US of the size of pads and rotors the car used for a while. That made them very expensive. I've used Ferodos for a while and I am giving Hawk pass a try now.

One beautiful thing about the setup on the Evo is that it is very easy to do the front and rear brakes. Tap out two pins and the retention spring comes out.

Pull the pads out. Undo two bolts and the calipers are released from the upright. Slide of the floating rotor. Replace with new and run the process backwards. I add some copper anti-seize to the back to avoid squeal. After everything is back on take the car out to bed in the pads and off you go. Takes about 20-30 minutes per corner if you are being pokey. I always give everything a good close look while I'm in there.

All done. You can see the crap clear-coat that Brembo put on these. Mine lasted longer than most, but are pealing now.

Miss my evo! I had a silver evo 8, painted the stock wheels gunmetal and painted the calipers silver (got brembo stickers from ebay), looked sharp and only took a weekend for all the painted.

That is a lot of brake dust! 33k miles per brake job is pretty good for an enthusiastically driven evo though (assuming you have owned it since new). Wish there were some 8s in my price range, how is the car holding up @ 132k?

It is holding up well and I've had it since new. I drive it enthusiastically and I don't beat on it. It isn't modded either. I read some of the early issues people were having and most were drive-train related. An Evo will launch hard, but it will only do it a few times before expensive bits start giving up. I never did that. I also changed how I shift to better suit the car.

Well that sounds reasonable. I had a wrx and it grenaded itself at 80k, burned all of the synthetic oil so it was more user error than anything else. The unmodified, well cared for and low mileage evos hold their value so much better than the subarus so it looks like my $15k wont cut it :(

I would guess mine would be in the $12000 range +/- . It's not perfect, but it could be polished up pretty quickly. Mechanically it is very sound.

Going to do the brembos on my sti soon, hope its as easy as the evo! My gold paint is starting to chip in some areas, I'm just going to let it go until it really bothers me, and re do them in something different.

Kind of the same place I'm in now. It isn't the prettiest thing in the world, but they work just fine and after a couple of days of driving in the rain you can't tell either way.
