Cleaning wheels/hubcaps. And not plain Jane 5 spokes. PITA ones. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! I picked up these hubcaps, wheels and tires that were originally on my 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. The previous owner had them sitting in his basement for the past 11 years.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I don't mind the Olds rally wheels on it now, but the car as a whole is a bit of an old man car, so why not some old man spokes and white walls?
The tires are still in good shape, I just cleaned up the white wall a bit. The hub caps weren't too bad, I cleaned them with a bit of soapy water and a soft brush. The red from the Olds rocket had faded though.
So I grabbed my Testors modelling paints and a toothpick and started filling in the recessed areas one drop at a time. The color I used was "anti-fouling red"... whatever the hell that means.
Looks a bit sloppy at the moment, but that's ok. I let it dry then remove the excess with some fine sand paper. It didn't say what grit it was, but I would guess about 2000? I used a razor for the places I couldn't get with the sandpaper. An Exacto would have worked better but I couldn't find mine.
And this is the end result. It will look good as new once they're mounted.

I like spokes!
I know your pain, I once had to clean a 1963 Jaguar, with spoke wheels...
It looked exactly like this one:

It didn't help that the only one helping me was a 76 year old man...
I did the body and one wheel, he did three wheels all by himself...

I guess I was sort of lucky. These are just hubcaps so I could work on them at a table rather than squat around like some caveman.
