I love movies and I love cars (and some motorcycles). While I am not a fan of huge 200 million dollar productions because what they make up in CGI and quality they usually loose in freedom and narrative aspects.
Luckily short films have been popular for a long time now, and thanks to the internet and vimeo.com it survived. Actually super short films are increasingly popular, as Vine and Instagram prove.
My reasoning is fairly simple: I want to see great vehicles, a good story, and powerful pictures. So here is my personal hall-of-fame of automotive short films.

The Real Thing.
There are many videos out there that document a build by a more or less professional shop. Few have such a perfect post processing. All the colors blend perfectly and fit the atmosphere created by various detail shots of the shop. And then there is the car: funny car inspired body, super rare Andretti Can-Am V8. A masterpiece.
Cafe Racer.
Contrast is all this black and white film is about. The dirty, outlaw motorcyclist on his equally dirty Norton Cafe Racer. His face isn't a GQ one but more one of character. On the other hand there is that girl. Young, pretty, styled in a Mercedes SL. Sounds a bit clique, but it works thanks to excellent camera work.
The bit I loved the most though is the bikers reaction to the guy on the Honda bike.
Ryan Tuercks Off Season 2
Action is always a good thing, but there is a fine line between cool, authentic shots and highly staged clips à la Gymkhana 5 or Gittins firedrift. Formula D Pro Ryan Tuerck nails it together with his crew at Network A. While we all know the film wasn't a spontaneous idea but planed with rather large effort, you get a instant feeling of "hanging out" with him as he shreds some tires in a beautiful S13 on a beautiful forest with beautiful corners.
What are your favourite automotive short films? I would love to see them in the comments.

The Real Thing was built by my friend Bodie Stroud. I've been meaning to put together a blog post about his shop, and this vid is definitely gonna be included. It's so good.
