The other day I plasti dipped a friends wheels black and added glossifier. I've never used the glossifier until now, but I have to say I'm very impressed with the results. What say you oppo, is glossifier good or bad?

And on the car itself:

Looks nice. I was thinking about giving my wheels the same treatment.

Thanks! You might as well give it a shot! If you mess anything up all you have to do is peel it off and start again. Doesn't take long to do either, just spray it on and add layers as it dries every few minutes.

I like the glossifier. Makes it look like it's done properly.

How many layers did that take?

I've did four layers of black, and four layers of gloss - eight total. I don't think that's an exact science or a proven method, but it worked for me. It seems like half a can per wheel is a good rule of thumb. The thicker it is, the easier it is to peel off later. Two coats of gloss may be all you need - if you want gloss that is. I left my cars wheels with the satin black look that Plasti has.

I like it as well, gives it a factory black appearance. Hopefully it will weather well.

Hey, this plastidip thing is completely new to me, but i was thinking a lot about painting a set of my wheels so i am now very interested. Did you use the rattle can version on the wheels, or another method? And how much of the stuff did you use for the four wheels?
cheers

I'm going to be doing this this weekend, same color too. Good timing, it confirms my choice as a good one. Of course my plan to do the center caps red probably isn't a good choice...

Haha, well it's not my car, I just dipped the wheels for a friend. Personally I wouldn't have added the vinyl either. I like it clean.

Not sure where to get it outside of ordering it online. Would like to try it eventually.

I used the can version, which is easy enough on wheels, on a full car you'd probably want to use an hvlp sprayer. I used about half a can per wheel for the black base layer, or about four coats. I then did four more coats of gloss, but two coats may be all you need of that.
It's a nice way to get a temporary change that doesn't harm the wheels or paint. It should last a while, my brother has had his plastidipped for over a year now.

Its basically just a clear gloss plastidip you spray over the base plastidip coat below. I used four coats of black plastidip and then added four more of gloss. I don't think you need four coats of gloss, two may be enough. Here's a video from Dip Your Car that shows the process.

Only one way to find out! see how the red looks on there, all you have to do is peel it off if it doesn't look right.

It will hold up. I had it on my wheels for a while a few years back.

Haha Three years later, it did hold up. Removed it a few months back.
