Originally a page where Maui residents would regale tales of being ticketed by a Maui Police Department Officer, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! has turned into a page where people report on accidents, speed traps, emergency incidents, and the goings on of the various Emergency Services on Maui. And the County of Maui is investigating whether the page is harassment of the officer that is the namesake of the group.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! it explains how TAGUMAwatch was setup as a page for residents of Maui to tell stories of Officer Keith Taguma, a MPD officer well known for ticketing drivers of infractions ranging from parking infractions to speeding. But as the likes began to rack up, the page morphed from focusing on Officer Taguma himself to reporting the various speed traps and incidents requiring emergency service presence that happen on Maui. Going thru the posts, it reads like a local exchange as residents pass info on where to slow down and avoid speed traps, avoid road closures, and in the wake of several Tropical Storms that threatened Hawaii, provided real time info on the storms. Going thru the comments, some people praise the more timely info aggregation of TAGUMAwatch than traditional media outlets.

But the change has reportedly not stopped the County of Maui from investigating possible harassment claims of Officer Taguma. While the creators of the page claim TAGUMAwatch is not meant to be a forum for people to hate on Officer Taguma, Count of Maui officials have supposedly interviewed one possible suspect that could be running or has created the Facebook page, according to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! The suspect, Neldon “AZD” Mamuad, has a history with Officer Taguma, airing a radio show that tracked Officer Taguma in 2004-2005. He currently works for Maui County as an aide to a Maui County Councilman and the County Liquor Commission.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! but as of the date of this posting, it hasn't changed, and even the traditional stations with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

What do you think? Should a facebook page ride on the coat tails of someone's infamy? Where does the line stand in cases like this when the main focus of the page changes into a valuable local resource?

If one officer is a big enough asshole to become this widely known, this should indicate a problem. IMO, no it isn't harassment, even if the guy was in the right. Freedom of speech.

If he wasn't an asshole, however, he could start contributing himself to the page, and make it seem like it was all his idea.

Before I read the article I thought TAGUMA was an acronym and that it was a Hawaiian Robocop

You're definitely right that that would be the best approach — to take it lightly, I mean, and contribute to the page himself. The thing is, though, if he were capable of the kind of flexibility and good humor that would allow him to do that, I'm guessing he wouldn't have gotten an FB page made about him in the first place.
