This is the 1956 !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! concept. That pillarless roof was to be the future of car design, but the concept was lost in a tragic accident. Find out what happened after the jump.

Kinja'd!!!

The car was designed by Ghia, who spent over a year on the project because Chrysler wanted a fully drivable prototype rather than a fancy shell as was the norm for concepts. The car was intended to be shown at Chrysler's 1957 auto show, and was loaded onto the liner Andrea Doria to be moved from Italy to New York. Any ship buffs reading this will know what happened next.

Kinja'd!!!

The collision between the Andrea Doria and the Stockholm is one of the most well known shipwrecks, behind of course that of the Titanic . I won't go into details but you can !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Kinja'd!!!

The Norseman went down with the ship and was lost forever, along with 46 unfortunate souls. Only a few models and photographs remain of the car. Chrysler never attempted another pillarless vehicle.

Looks like the wiper to windsheild ratio is off. Guess it never mattered.

I'd imagine enough is known that were some mad bastard to attempt it, a creditable replica could be made. Exact exterior dimensions can likely be determined down to <1/2" just from enough photographs, and assuming off-the-shelf running gear was listed, you'd just need to raid a bunch of Mopar derelicts. The structure stuff might be hard, but modern FEA would mean even if you didn't duplicate Ghia's solution, you'd have one at least as good.

The roof shape smacks of a Rambler Marlin in that rear view
