When you call Boeing Phantom Works, the hold music is "The Girl from Ipanema." Make of that what you will.

I do love this song so that wouldn't be a problem for me. I would just sing along, feebly.

I LOVE Astrud Gilberto. That soft, soothing voice. Best hold music ever.

Are you familiar with Bebel Gilberto (daughter of Joao Gilberto, with Miucha, not Astrud)? If not... uh... I have some CDs you may need.

That's like... the stereotypical elevator/hold music, but maybe of the 80s..?
Certainly not a modern sort of thing.

Agreed. The Getz/Gilberto/Gilberto/Jobim era is simply the most relaxing music ever.

"The Girl from Ipanema" was written in 1962. Wikipedia has an interesting article about the song.

Oh, I know, (my folks used to put it on on the stereo) it's just that I vaguely recall it being used as well as elevator or hold music in some context long, long ago.
...which would indicate that as hold music it's somewhat of a cliché but anachronistic, which is odd.
