I just showed my co-worker this craigslist ad. He is not a car guy and sings the praises of the Jeep Liberty and the Ford Probe. Upon looking at this article he said...and I quote "I would laugh so hard at you if you got this." I asked why... he responded with "Because only Douches drive BMW's"

And any kid driving a car fast is a douche. If he is driving an expensive car, lets say high end BMW, Porsche or whatever, is a douche using his dad's car.

Assuming you can afford this car (and afford to maintain & repair it - not cheap), BUY THIS CAR. Why would you care what that guy thinks?

Your permagrin upon ownership should be more than enough to prove him wrong. Take it to the track and on long road trips and you'll prove to anyone that might think otherwise that you're an enthusiast and not a poser.

I picked up an '08 E90 M3 last year. If anyone who doesn't know me, thinks I'm a dick because of what I drive , that's on them.

get it. Mine was an awesome car. I loved it dearly, despite it being a terribly irrational purchase ( I had a $650 a month car payment, while in college, but i would have spent that on beer, so its ok) The sti is the first car I have owned that makes me forget about it, even then, such a great car. The interior is great, the seats are fantastic and adjust something like 11 different ways, its pleasant to be in for long road trips etc.

I am so sick of that stereotype... As you can tell by my handle I am a BMW guy and have quite a few BMWs in the family. Driving a BMW doesn't make you a douche, being inattentive, oblivious to those around you and not knowing how to park worth a damn does. So if people think I am a douche because I am lucky enough to be able to drive a BMW well they can go to hell because they are just oblivious as everyone else. I'll being driving a long with the biggest smile on my face when I plant my right foot down. I am looking at possibly picking up one of these as well. Trying to find a clean one near me for the right price is getting to be a little tough. If it all checks out I would jump on one that only has ~72000 miles on it.

My father wanted an upgrade from his 550i which was one of the very first, I was with him when the fuel ran out with it saying there was half a tank left (link) , 1 recall fix later and it was awesome. But he wanted more power so we welcomed the newest member to the family and the FIRST one to be delivered. This is not mine below, I need to do a proper shoot with a decent camera.

Even after BMW's marketing slogan as "The Ultimate Driving Machine" most people don't see BMW's as anything other than a status symbol. To them it's no different than a toyota, honda, etc.. Except that it costs more. I even thought the same for most of my life, until I went to Germany and got one as a rental. I've been hooked ever since.
