I have my first adventure race this weekend. Starting to get slightly nervous.
Anyone got any tips?
Antichafe, check
Bike, check
Trail shoes, check
Other as-sundries one would normally carry backpacking, check

The best advice I can give you: Have fun; don't take it too seriously. This is your first race, so you almost assuredly have no chance of winning. Just go out there and have a good time. Start at a leisurely pace and just try to get a feel for the event.
BTW, nice setup. Looks mightily familiar :)

You too, I remember that picture!
Thanks for the input. My only goals are to finish and not break or twist anything. I go on vacation two weeks after this. I'm excited about it though. Hope to do some more of them if I love it.
Which, let's be honest, I like triathlons, running, hiking and cycling. So what's not to love?

What is this adventure race you speak of? I've been single track riding a lot lately, and this sounds fun.

What's the format of the race? Is it hot where you live? If so, I suggest getting some of these: Hammer Endurolytes
If you only want to mess with water, they're great for staying hydrated and preventing cramping. I did a 6-hr endurance race (with a buddy) and watch racer after racer hop off their bikes in the transition area only to have their calves cramp up. While I had other issues, I took one of those every hour or so and never had muscle cramps.

H0w far? I totally overdid it on my first race. It was 25 miles total with a combination of running, biking and canoeing. Definitely not for the faint of heart considering how much of it was up a freakin mountain. Since then I've done a lot of shorter formats with run-bike-run setups, etc. Just stay hydrated and keep your electrolytes up and you'll be good. I wore my camelback the whole race.

It's an 8 hour format just like the ones you've done. bike, canoe run.
Good call on the electrolytes. I have a Camel-bak Mule so I'll be good there. Thanks

Canoe, bike, trail run. It's 8 hours. It't not supposed to rain and the high is 82°. I'll try and find those endurolytes, good call!
Did you have any other physical issues? I run 5 miles and bike 25 so I think I have that covered. I have some more rowing machine work to do.

These are the ones close to where I live:

There are many different types though.
I'll post on how it goes, Sunday.

Not really, other than make sure you have plenty of fuel (for yourself) and water. Like JWW said, just pace yourself. It sounds like you have the rest covered. I've done duathlons (run/bike), but they don't sound as long as your race. One is a 5 mile trail run + 12 mile bike that I've done the past three years. I also did one that was bike-6/run-2/bike-6, but that one was in October, so heat wasn't much of an issue. For me, there was a central transition area where I could stock up items. How is yours going to work? Central transition area or two separate ones where you go from canoe to bike and then from bike to run?
