Apparently very hard - both the driver and mechanical were killed when it crashed into a tree - the driver swerved to avoid a dog on the road during the race (in this part of France IIRC stray dogs were an issue).

Little-known fact: Pipe cleaners were originally invented as heat sinks for old engines. As the air passed over the pipe cleaner and ruffled the fuzzy bits it also carried away engine heat.
