What's going to get me in more trouble?

(1) Buying an upgraded gaming PC ($1000 or thereabouts) + a Logitech Driving Force GT wheel and pedal set ($149, works with my PS3 as well) so that I can play iRacing and GT5 year-round without any risk to life or limb.

(2) Buying an actual car that needs to be fueled, maintained, and insured, so that I can autocross it twice a year and potentially injure myself by being a miserable driver.

I already know the answer, I just felt like putting it out there... 'cause in any case, I don't have the cash on hand for either.

HA! Sucks to be me!

Don't buy a G27, buy a Fanatec. That way you have the better wheel and the option to run an Xbox sim if you ever have the desire.

As Porsche said, Fanatec. If you haven't tried it, Forza truly is awesome and Forza 5 looks like it will be even moreso, especially as GT6 isn't coming out on the next-gen PlayStation. Also, if you spend $1,000 on a gaming PC to run racing games, you're spending it wrong. It should be $600 to run pretty much any racing games on near full settings, if not full, and most others quite acceptably. Just don't be buying 500gb SSDs or other money pits. If you need help choosing parts/sources for parts, feel free to contact me.

To be fair, the Driving Force GT should only cost you like, $100.

Get the G25 or G27 used, if you can't afford a Fanatec when this theoretical situation comes to realism. The Driving Force GT feels cheap, and you'll want to upgrade just after you start using it. I bought a used G25 and it works great with the PS3/GT5/iRacing

Plus wall-mounted pedals that are better set up for heel-toe action!

Pedals are a non-issue since you can use G27 units on Fanatecs and, on PCs, Fanatec units on G27s.

I wish I knew this back when I actually played vidya games and was willing to spend money on them.

Which is going to get you in more trouble? The car

Which is the better choice? The car

You're right, it's not necessary to spend $1000 on a gaming rig. Fact is, I may be getting a new iMac to replace the current model, which pushes the price up a bit.

I'm actually pretty handy with computers - I'm a software developer and I've built PCs for friends and family in the past (when I was young and had time to do so). I think the only critical part to get right for my needs is the graphics card.

In my case, it's Stephen Harper. Do I have to thank him? I'm not sure he deserves the credit!

Good advice, thanks! I didn't know the GT was the lesser model to the G27.

If I get a used wheel, I'll need driving gloves, too. Because someone else's sweaty hands... ewwww! :)

Yeah, I cleaned mine pretty thoroughly... It's been a great wheel, though. I do like having the third pedal sometimes. My brother has the driving force, and it just doesn't have the same serious feel to it. Lack of metal parts, no H-pattern...

Now, what you really want to save up for is this badass wheel: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00…
