Spent the afternoon today spraying our wheels Turned out well, I think. The gold/copper color I was going for turned out much brighter than expected, I'll try a darker color next time. For now it's pretty decent.

After several coats of black (6 coats, by my count)

Kinja'd!!!

I've chastised people before for doing this with their wheels on the car, but after realizing I was going to spray 8 wheels today, I decided the quickest thing wasn't actually such a terrible idea. I bagged the brakes and everything was covered completely. My biggest problem was the bag sticking to the spokes when I painted, but there was no risk of overspray on the brakes. If I was doing one car, it would be probably a better solution to take the wheels off, but it isn't an issue if you don't... just cover your junk!

This is after 6 coats of Copper Metallizer. I originally wanted a gold color and thought this might get a good depth...it actually is VERY deep and beautiful, but on my car it's a little obnoxious! I can rock it though.

Kinja'd!!!

I sprayed my emblems (I eventually put copper metallizer over this, too, but I regret it - it turned out orange) and for those of you who don't know what Plastidip is and why so many people dig it, this picture should explain everything.

Kinja'd!!!

Here's an all around shot, everything sprayed and dry.

Here's my girlfriends G35 wheels, she has a white sedan... this is before Plastidip

Kinja'd!!!

Here's about 6 coats of Anthracite. This one looks real good.

We also sprayed her grill to match the wheels. Next we'll try a white and pearlizer on the black bottom trim of her car.

I've seen mentions of plastidipping before, and that it's easily removable, but how does that affect the durability? Does it "set up" over time?

Plastidip empowers the common man.

It "hardens" after 72 hours, but is still removable. It's not a permanent solution, and that's why I chose it. I could easily see this coming up after a year - a chip here, a nick there, and it starts peeling. It is supposed to handle everyday wear and tear, so it shouldn't have many issues. Most people don't leave it on for more than a year though.

Nice work.

Looks pretty good.

I am thinking that wheels on my next car may be gunmetal grey, with the matte black plasti-dip on the wheel rims.

I love it, sounds like a temporary tattoo for car mods. Very cool.
