A friend has a Droid X that they are using till she gets a new iPhone. The thing has too much bloatware on it that it lags like crazy. I need some help finding how to root it. I have rooted a lot of phones in the past, but I don't know what is the most recent and a method that works.
If anyone has recent experience with rooting a Droid X, let me know. Thanks.

Yep, I looked at that. But the thing is that the Droid X, was touted as a unrootable phone. There were a lot of methods that were thrown around. I was looking for someone that had done it recently. Thanks though.

Might take a while because traffic is slower there, but I once had a smartphone related question and I got a ton of very helpful replies.

No experience with the Droid X, but I do know that rooting methods differ per phone. I have an Alcatel which is also a pain to root, I first have to extract a filesystem image, then edit a file called something.prop at the root of that filesystem image (change a line with "ro.secure=1" to "ro.secure=0"), flash my modified image back and then I can use SuperOneClick to root it. I can imagine this being the same for some other hard-to-root phones, but I don't know if it actually is, and if it is I don't know if it also is for the Droid X. But if there is a line with "ro.secure=1" in your prop file, at least this may at least bring you closer to a working root method.

Just download, allow unknown sources, install, open, select top root method (Gimli), reboot phone.
It's verified it works with these Motorola devices running android 2.3.4
Droid 2 (a955), Droid 2 Global (a956), R2D2 (a957), & Droid X (MB810)
