You can't tell a good story about Pink Floyd without a mention of Syd Barrett. From 1964 to 1967, he was the primary songwriter, lead guitarist, and lead singer of the Floyd, when they made a distinctive psychedelic style of music, recorded with the Beatles next door working on more psychedelic stuff, and where just tripping their balls out.
But over time, he went into a drug-induced mental state, becoming erratic and unreliable as a touring musician. David Gilmour joined the band in '67 as a fifth member, initially as a Brian Wilson-esque group, but this quickly failed, and by the end of '68, the band, along with Gilmour, decided not to pick him up for a show, ending his stint with the Floyd.
It's a miracle he somehow recorded two more LPs, with Gilmour doing most of the production of these albums. Off his very last album "Barrett:, is this gem, "Gigolo Aunt". I don't know what that is either. After this album, he would record a few instrumentals for the BBC before moving back to his hometown of Cambridge and entering a reclusive life, where he painted and lived a quiet existence (save for the curious cats nearing his house) until his death n 2006.

Syd wasn't literally kicked out. The rest just decided to not pick him up on the way to a show lol.

as sad as it is to say, if Sid hadn't suffered his breakdown, it's likely the music most of us love by "the Floyd" would not exist. they were a very different band post-Sid.
