HIT IT WITH A HAMMER! ...or use an air compressed impact wrench if you got one of those, worked for me.

I've been reading that, the bolt that holds the balancer on is frozen.

If its fused, bust out the flame wrench, get it really hot then have at it.

Pretty strong. I tried using a cheater pipe, but then the whole assembly turns (crankshaft, pistons, etc.)

Hmmm, I need a torch. Good suggestion. Thanks

Try to loose it up with some flames or something!
If it still doesn't work (I probably fought an hour with mine) there is this "hack" you can do if the starter is still on the engine...

probably going to have to heat it. Do you have a torch, Mapp or Acetylene?

You're just trying to get the bolt off ? They usually come off relatively easily. It's the balancer itself that is usually a BEAR.
Are you sure that you're turning it the correct way ? ;-)

I've seen them removed by attaching a long breaker bar to the wrench, placing the bar against the floor, then turning the motor over with the starter. It's pretty shade tree, but both times I witnessed it, it worked when nothing else would. Be sure to disable spark or fuel or both prior to doing it, and make sure the bar is on the correct side of the car...
Danger factor: 4 out of 5 skull and bones, but if you're desperate...
Not knowing what engine you have, be sure it isn't reverse threaded, some oddball motors have that wonderful option if I'm not mistaken, usually marine motors designed for reverse rotation.

Assuming the bolt is right hand threaded...
Which may not always be true...

When I built my Galant Vr4 many years ago we tried absolutely every trick out there, and even bought the absolute top of the line IR gun to try to break it loose with no luck. I did this (the engine spun the correct way to do it) and in one quick pop the bolt threaded out with ease.
It was our absolute last resort, but it worked fantastic and I dont think there was any REAL potential danger.
