Part of me says that all hummers are insufferably douchy. Another part of me says that, as long as the drivetrain on this is still intact, and that the seller is serious about being willing to negotiate on the price, it would be an insane amount of fun out here in the Southern Arizona deserts...

I could definitely see some cash being made by the person who buys it. Hummers get a bad rap even though they do break down quite often. They aren't meant to be like another SUV its there for the people who really want something different. If someone handed me the keys to one of these I wouldn't turn it down fun times are certainly to be had here.

As with nearly all specialized cars, they are only douchy if not driven as intended. If you use a hummer to drive your kids to school and pick up groceries... Douche

If you use it as an endlessly capable offroader... Awesome!

I say go for it!

Eh, not worth your troubles if you're looking for a turn key desert funmobile. For his asking price, you could get a nice Wrangler that's probably already been built up for desert wheeling.

I don't consider the H1 models douchey. H2 and H3 models are obviously only for posers, since they're a "tough" looking body on a regular GM chassis, but the H1 is very capable and unique. If you have the means, and you'd have fun with it, go for it.

People tend to forget that the H2 is a luxury SUV, not a capable offroader. And the H3 is just... it's just the H3. But this guy, the H1... my god do I want one.

Agreed. I am not actually considering it - I am perfectly happy with my 80-Series Land Cruiser for offroad duty... but I would have definitely been tempted by this ad if it were posted when I was shopping for the Land Cruiser!

That is a very good buy. Everything can be replaced easily with a little help from your maintenance buddy that just got back from Afghanistan.

Think Jeep. Short wheelbase, short overhangs front and rear, narrow track. Perfect for the mountains and canyons.

I actually think that H3s are fairly decent as a competitor to the Xterra and FJ Cruiser. Hummer as a whole though just has such a bad rep mostly because of the abomination that is the H2, but also in part due to the douchcanoes that use the H1 as a grocery-getter.

Yeah, I know. But the child in me still can't help but look at an H1 and get giddy over thoughts of plowing through the desert...

This looks like the perfect candidate for some Mad Max-like desert shenanigans.

Exactly. I would feel very little need to fix things - just reattach the sideview mirror, pound out the door frame just enough to get the doors to latch, and then go romp!

I'll just come out and say it: I like the H2 (I know, I should be ashamed). I know it has a bad rap, and everyone would think I were a douche, but for whatever reason I like the looks of it. I don't really know anything about its capabilities off road, but it seems like GM did some work to make it a capable machine.
