I thought the burial was part of the agreement with the US when they were purchased.

Either because of the toxic chemicals used when servicing or something about the US being worried that they were still relatively effective.. they'd outrun an F22 Raptor in a straight line.

That's a lot of elevator-up in the first photo. Doubt he was trying keep level. Was he coming out of a too-low loop, or testing gear-up landing?

They lost a nose gear wheel and choose to land gear up. There is a video here in the comments that talks about it.

Just saw the video. Looks like a perfectly executed wheel's up landing. Interesting that they had an arrestor cable available. I bet that was difficult since carrier landings are a much steeper glideslope (essentially crashing into the ground) at exactly the location of the cables. Here, they had to ease it in gently, and drop it precisely on the cable, which would have been hard due to ground effect lift.
