Or is it great great great great? I dunno.
I came out of the office today to find that a coworker had parked their 7th gen Celica GT-S next to my 3rd gen GT-S, so I thought "Hey, family photo-op!"

Sweet. I have a 2nd Gen, Sparf's is a 4th Gen. Anyone got a 1st, 5th, 6th or 7th Gen?

Yeah Sparf and I have talked Celica talk a little bit, I believe he has a GT-Four (or AllTrac here in NA).
Classic Celica owners I believe are unfortunately a rare breed here in Utah, where I imagine a lot of them fell prey to our notorious winters/rust or were victims of the Cash For Clunkers program.
Mine is rare enough that it turns heads whenever I take it out. When I was in the market to buy a 3rd gen this past month there was this one (which was in the best shape, all very original condition), one liftback '84 that was in rough shape, and two rolling frames and that was it.
There was one up in Idaho I was considering if this deal fell through (a second gen 1980 Sunchaser) that supposedly was in very good original condition.

BTW, you oughta throw up some pics of yours. Lets see how many Celica owners we can get on the thread hehe.

I actually might get a 3rd gen myself somewhere down the line, and my 4th gen might some day get a 6th gen GT-Four drivetrain swap (engine, gearbox and differentials - the works!).

Yup, GT-Four. Although it's branded as a "Turbo 4WD" like the Canadian model, the DMV papers say GT4.
I'm seriously considering acquiring JDM GT-Four badges and decals for it.

I'm not a fan at all of the 7th gen, but I like your RA65!

Thanks! I'm absolutely loving it so far. I'm gonna keep it as is for now, cause its in pretty good shape (though not without some minor issues, but hell, it's almost 30 years old), then I'll start a complete restoration in two to three years or so.
It's not going to take much to do a full resto job, though, just because of how well its been cared for. The previous owner gave me a file more than an inch thick with every single thing that's been done to the car since it was bought (I think I might even have the original invoice in there somewhere), from every oil change and maintenance right down to a full documentation of the engine rebuild by the shop that performed it. He even threw in a complete DMV history so I had verification of the original mileage.

I always thought the 7th gen needed less...body. Its got too much going on. Id make everythign flat and smooth. Remove wing and get a flat hood.

I've been meaning to take a new pic of Grimace anyway. Took this when I got to work this morning:

Yup, username there is TylerOnTheBass. For one reason or another it wouldn't let me use my usual pianomanzero handle

Send a PM to Aaron (SuperCelica77), if it's like any other forum I've helped with, he can change your username for you.
I've got a build thread going over there on Grimace .

Looks like the project is moving along pretty well! Is Grimace up and running as your daily driver yet?
How did you come to name yours Grimace?
The PO of mine's son (who's now my age) named my car Flash after the DC Comics character. I've been thinking of preserving that nickname just for the sake of continuity hehe. It's been called flash for the better part of 20 years, so who am I to break with tradition ;-P

Yes, Grimace is my "almost" daily driver. On occasion, I'll still bring my wife's Buick to work, but I'm driving Grimace pretty regularly now (3 out of 4 days this week).
Grimace got it's name from the hanging ornament that was in the car when I bought it.
Since I don't want to paint my 24,xxx mile Celica purple, I ended up painting the hybrind 20/22R that's in it purple (including the valve cover). I think I might go snag an updated pic of the motor in a little bit. Need to get out of the cubical for a few anyway.

That's awesome! I've gotta get an engine bay pic of mine, since its so clean. I was really surprised at how clean it was for its age, especially being a Utah car.
I've also gotta track down some other utah classic Celica owners. There don't seem to be a whole lot of them so far. I'm gonna try talking to the guys over at JDM Legends and see if they know a few and maybe try to organize a classic Japanese car show together or something.
