Everyone has different tastes and preferences for cars. Some prefer wagons, some prefer coupes, and some prefer sedans. There are cars that give us that "fizzy" feeling Mr. May describes on Top Gear.
Then there are cars that we absolutely loathe. We hate what they stand for, the people that drive them, and what they represent. This doesn't have to be strictly "cars, but can include SUV's and trucks as well.
I personally hate the Caliber (save for the SRT 4). Everytime I see one on the road, I feel bad about the person driving it. There were so many better options than that plastic POS that they could have picked. Yet they picked one that represents one of the worst cars of the era.
So show me what cars make you angry, make you want to throw an egg at their windshield, that you wish never existed.

Yes, the Caliber was one nasty piece of shit. While I hate it, I can't say I hate it the most. At the end of the day, it's just another bad car, like a Cavalier or Aztek.
I'm also hate beige cars with a passion, but I can't give most hated to a Camry, Corolla, current Jetta, etc. Usually, there's no doubt as to what there purpose in life is, (no matter how many grounded to the ground commercials Toyota makes.)
The car I hate the most, would have to be the Toyota Prius. I hate how smug it makes it's owners feel, I hate how Toyota advertises it, I hate when they fly down the freeway doing 90 MPH. I hate it how most people (Jalops excluded) don't realize how environmentally impactive the manufacture of it is. Did I mention the smugness factor?
(Disclaimer: I realize not all Prius drivers are like this, but the vast majority are.)

This ugly POS. It is a mix of the ugly, monotone Audi design, bright LEDs and the drivers.
In germany a black A4 Avant is THE company car, so every one (of course not everyone, I just keep thinking that) driving it is
a) frustrated because of poor sex life and a boring job —-> let it out while driving
b) doesn't pay for the car and therefore drives it aggerssivley and
c) doesn't pay for gas either, so pedal to the metal aswell.
Combined with those bright bright LEDs any A4 is an assult to anyone cruising around peacfully.

Toyota Camry - and Toyotas, regardless of what the badge says, in general with great emphasis on the Prius and Avalon.
Please learn how to drive, as I am always worried about what stupid thing you are going to do ahead of me.
Please stay behind me, as you are going to cause an accident.
Please get the hell out of the left lane.
Please go faster than ten under the speed limit, I know the car is grounded to the ground and all, but still.
Please use your turn signal.
Please have some idea where you are going.
Please take the bus.

Some say that 2000-2010 was a horrible decade or a myriad of reasons. The war on terror, the bank collapse, the bankruptcy of the automakers, whatever American or European leader you think has a funny face, etc....But I think I know what happened. I think the PT Cruiser is to blame. It was made from 2000-2010 and may be responsible for the rash of youths today who are not excited about driving. Want proof? You're 16 years old and mom goes "Happy birthday!" and you stare with dread as the jingling keys in front of you.....are for the family's "wood" sided PT cruiser......I would much rather walk or take the bus than be in that wretched thing!
Clearly, the improvements we've been seeing in our lives in recent years come not from the president or the recovery of this bank or that automaker, nor is it any other event....It is just that Chrysler decided to axe the PT with no replacement. A great sigh of relief was sounded when that happened and I can only hope that we never make this mistake again.

Commuter Pickup trucks.
They're great work trucks, not going-to-work trucks. The number of people wearing Oxford shirts, talking on their cellphones, heading into and out of the office parks housing their white collar consulting firms, driving a never-seen-dirt ChevroFoRam 15000 Super Phallus Diesel Stroke Cummins Heaving Duty with all the chrome accessories is sickening. So now I'm on the interstate surrounded by middle managers in trucks much larger than they pretend to be, being driven like the BMW they are not, darting between lanes with no signals and tailgating so badly the front car's license plate light highlights the tailgater's bumper, and everyone's on their phone raging about being "stuck in traffic", flying into any open spot and preventing me from seeing far enough forward until I drop back, only to have the next Pussy Wagon wannabe fly right into the spot I've vacated, forcing me to do it again.
Part of the reason I want Euro-type regs, licensing, and fuel prices to come here is because that may finally kill trucks as status symbols. And I would enjoy nothing better than that.

LEDs are bright because in DRL mode they need to be, in full headlight mode they aren't
Also, you seem to hate the owners of such cars more then the car itself, since it didn't do anything wrong. Calm down.

No, my birthday gift was a summer job at the brake shop my dad worked at to save up some cash for my own car. I bought a high roof conversion van with a rear seat that turned into a bed. 75$ for the whole thing cause the van overheated, the guy was moving, and gas was over 4$ a gallon (this was 2005 I think). Fixed it up and drove it for the best summer ever.

The damn V6 mustang convertible.
I will start off by saying the caliber at least is just a commuter car, while people with cars like these are play car enthusiasts. Now back on the mustang ... Most are driven by rednecks or douchebags or mild aged woman. But at least the douchebags and rednecks will mod them and drive them like they're sports cars. When it comes to the V6 convertible, the owner is carelessly driving around in their "sports car" going slow in the fast lane. You bought the base model convertible because all you care about is being seen.
Bonus points for how bad this car is comes from google! The first image for "mustang convertible" is from a rental company.
A little off topic, I sincerely hate every convertible owner that has the top up on a beautiful day. All I can ever think is - "Today is why you bought that damn car and spent extra money, what the hell are you waiting for?!"

Weirdly, I kind of like the Caliber. I have no idea why.
I hate the current Corolla. I had to rent one when my truck was in the body shop. I paid a bit extra to avoid an Aveo, and I shouldn't have. If you want an example of how Toyota lost the plot, drive one before the new one replaces it. It was plasticky like an American car from 15 years ago and had absolutely no verve. It made me sad, actually. I had a '93 Prizm that was a great and fun little car, but this Corolla was so watered down and boring that I hated it.

Toyota minivans. But let me be honest, I hate most all minivans. It's like giving up on life. I have a family member with one. They've had it for about 8 years. Never been cleaned out, never washed, is maintained by changing the oil, tires and brakes. It is dented and scratched and covered with stickers. It smells like moldy carpet and wet dog.
I hate having to ride in it. If you do, you have to kick junk out of the way in the floor board for a clear spot to place your feet.
Of course I don't have children. I understand the ease of entry but if you like cars, these represent nothing to enjoy about motoring. Well, except being able to see pretty scenery out the large windows.

My mom lives in town and drives about a mile to work in a Z71 Silverado. She'll drive to the store on the weekends to get some groceries and maybe to a friends/family members house in the country once in a great while. It saddens me all the time, and I've tried to get her to atleast look at an audi countless times to no avail. Also I give her crap for buying that off road package.

My uncle used to own one of these. Not the SRT-4, nor the ACR, but the second-gen base Neon. The manual was complete rubbish and it was the only car in the early 2000s to offer a three-speed automatic. it wasn't until 2002 that they "modernized" it with a four-speed auto, instead. It was also the only car sold in the 2000s in which the "power windows" feature meant that the front windows were powered, but the rear windows would still need to be hand-cranked because Chrysler ran out of space for the components because of the safety beams. Seat fabrics were practically made out of cardboard and the interiors were far worse than the Korean competitors of the time.
The fact that this is the worst I can think of says a lot about how relatively decent cars have been lately.

Controversy aside ("silly little fairy"), the most obnoxious thing for me was the exhaust sound at the end of the Dodge Caliber commercial. Did people really think that you can get a throaty V8 sound from that inline, anemic 4 cyl? Puh-leeeeze!

I detest the Panther and those that say it's a spectacular throwback. I personally think all Saabs post 99 and all Volvos aside from the P1800 are extremely lame. I like some wagons but not Volvo wagons, many European cars were RWD with a stick back in the 70s/80s, and the Mercedes and BMW offerings are way better IMO.

Hate? 1st Gen Taurus.
I have pushed more 1st gen Tauri than any other vehicle on the road. That vehicle was so under-engineered... It rivals the crappy Caliber in my mind. And I've never come across a Caliber that didn't severely underwhelm me. I returned two rental calibers for issues that were not resolvable, and one of them I went down to a Yaris, and I was happy about it.
But I dislike the Taurus more. Ugh.

m2m, apex detective

08/07/2013 at 17:35 | 0 |
That transmission is crap, though ... so utterly unenjoyable, in fact, that it ruins even the Roadster. After driving a few first- and second-generation (facelift?) ForTwo s for work I decided to borrow the Roadster on a weekend. It's light and very charming if you find a place to play around with it, but the 'box is just such a letdown. I'd say that only CVTs are even less fun.
An automated manual it may be, but then it's one of the worst kind. Even Toyota's Multi-Mode thing is more fun.
