Well, the title bar crops after a certain number of characters, so to clarify, I thought they were like my bike. One speed. Sort of like an electric car direct drive, or a CVT. As a kid, every car I had been in was so smooth, quiet, and lacked a tachometer (much like the interior of the Grand Marquis shown above), so I couldn't tell what this magical wizardry of an automatic transmission involved. It was when I was 8 and my dad bought a 1995 Toyota T-100 with a tachometer that I caught on. I saw the needle move back and forth. I asked what that "other speedometer" was for and my dad turned down the radio so I could pay attention and he explained.

Nope. We have a pair of 1992 Grand Marquisesesss and they have both been smooth shifters.

When I was really young (around 4 or 5) I thought that instead of using throttle to move people simply thought it and it happened, I'd say I've come quite a ways.
