I need a new laptop for college. I'm not entirely sure what specs I'll need, so I'll just say it should be able to run BeamNG smoothly, though not necessarily on the highest graphics settings. It can even be on the lowest, as long as the FPS isn't low. Really, the more it can run the better. I'll be able to use Autodesk and stuff on computers at the school, so everything absolutely vital is pretty much taken care of. Just... I wanna be able to play BeamNG, and that would generally mean the computer is fairly powerful otherwise. So yeah. Also, it should be under $700 or so. It's a graduation present, and my parents told me to pick anything "within reason." So of course I have no fucking idea what I want, since "within reason" could mean anything and they won't give me an actual price limit. So I'm just guessing here.

I'm an extreme supporter of mac books! I've had mine for 4 years now and it's never given me a single problem. Yes they're a bit more but you get what you pay for.

I think it might need to be a PC, actually. If I recall correctly, any and all programs I will need aren't available on Mac.

Within reason here should probably mean >$500. Yes, I know laptops have improved slightly price/performance-wise since I got the one I've used since my last two yeas of college, but take it from me-on-the-four-year-old $450 Compaq: DON'T DO IT

There is such a thing as unreasonably cheap, is what I'm saying. HP/COMPAQ - decent performance for the cost, but mein gott the battery murder and heat issues. You'd probably best off Dude Getting A Dell or Asus. Many other manufacturers don't tend to build for the kind of graphical cojones bias that makes a laptop really nice.

You aren't going to get a Mac that can run BeamNG well for $700 so you'll want a Windows PC. Also, it seems like BeamNG is poorly optimized for AMD processors so you'll want an Intel processor.

The midrange requirements for BeamNG are:

CPU : Dual-core processor with hyper-threading (4 threads)

RAM : 4GB DDR3

GPU : GTX 660 or Radeon 7870 or equivalent (>1GB Video RAM)

Suggestion Only: Check with your college bookstore and try to identify the various computer specifications and requirements any of the professors you might encounter are requesting. In this way, you might also locate a bargain that may not be available online, or in your nearby big-box store.

Yeah, but you can dual load windows onto it. When you turn it on you can just pick between windows OS and mac OS.

From what I have seen the best quality per dollar PC you can get with decent power is always Asus. Their N or G series laptops should be capable of handling your needs. They are a little above your price range from best buy but I bet if you shop around you can find a deal.
