It's almost done! Should be back on the road later today.
Started at 9:00am Saturday, and finished at 11:00pm. Welding took way longer than expected, it didn't help that I had to make two more floor panel pieces. Since the first welder didn't work I was loaned this guy.
Which also didn't work. At least fully. The wire speed control did not operate below the 3 setting. It barely operated above it as well, as it would just randomly stop. I feel that may be because of some thing I'm unaware of. I'm by no means a welding aficionado, this being maybe the 3rd time I've welded ever. Another snag making this difficult was the helmet. It had the auto adjusting lens, which liked to shut off in the middle of a weld burning my eyes out of their sockets. Also the head piece inside could not adjust and one side was broken. So once I had a piece lined up, one of 3 things would happen.
-wire wouldn't feed. have to get out from underneath car and play with adjuster knob.
-helmet would fall off or shift so I couldn't see
-start welding and "My God it's full of stars."
"What is?"
"MY EEEYYYYYEEEEEEEESSSSS!!!!!"
Any ways ended up with this at the end of the day.
Don't look to close. I know the welds look horrible, but it withstood the stomp test from inside, and I've hit it with a grinder so it's a little better. I applied another coat of rust preventative paint, so tomorrow I can undercoat and it should be done.
