I still persist to say that Need for Speed II SE (and Porsche Unleashed...but lets talk only about NFS II SE) had the best tracks, music and car lineups in the whole series. Yes you don't have a gazillion cars and tracks like the later ones or the ability of modding the car to your taste...but that game had a special something that the others don't. The showcases were amazing and you actually learned quite a bit of history about each cars and the compagnies. I used to replay again and again and again the vids about each cars and then I would drool on the pics.

Look at that! EA used to take the time to make their research, find cars that were unobtainable for the common mortal and got all the infos and facts about it. I was flabbergasted! You also had the interiors which was a big plus with my Thrustmaster Formula T2 wheel at the time...makes me wonder, what happened to the NFS I loved? Even Need For Speed High Stakes creators didn't expect this turn somewhat.

I had hopes with Test Drive unlimited 2...but it wasn't the same. I want my old NFS back with better graphics and all the bells and whistles it had with the showcases and a bit better physics (a la NFS I SE) ? Too much to ask?

My favorite track!

I think NFS started to go downhill with the launch of Underground.

I agree. At the same time...I was one of the guys that was cheering for EA black box when they were doing NFS U. How wrong was I, even though it was fun.

I like the copters that drop the nukes! NFS HP2 is awesome!

Agreed. I remember NFS Underground was the first NFS that was actually popular among my school mates because of how the cars looked. I've heard people saying that Underground/UG2 had far better tuning system than the current ones, but that's pointless when the focus is pretty much all on how the car looks, or how bitching the sound system is...

One day, I gotta properly test HP2. I uninstalled it when I saw how shitty it was on a force feedback wheel back in the days. Now i'll try it on a gamepad. You're not the only one saying how good it is.

Agreed. Hot Pursuit II was the peak. I still remember grinding for the F1 and Carrera GT. The tracks were great too. Pacific Island II, the forest one, the Mediterranean themed one and the long fall one with the mine stick out. You always knew shit was about to get real when the choppers came out.

I had this game. I feel like I raced as a log at one point. NFS 1 was still the best IMHO. And Porsche unleashed, though I hate that game for marrying EA to Porsche, ruining racing sims for the foreseeable future.

HP2 was great. But I also unashamedly love the new Hot Pursuit. It seems to have some of the old NFS magic back with sweeping tracks in gorgeous environments, and a focus on supercars instead of tuners. The handling is very arcadey, but hey, NFS was never a simulator, and since the new HP was developed by the makers of Burnout, body contact and cop battles feel fantastic.

Aw man the secret cars were funny as hell! I was driving a T-Rex one time. The physics of NFS 1 is still top notch, even the speed feel was spot on IMO. As for Porsches...We had Ruf or Gemballas in other games no? Not good enough?
